EKYhunter
Finally! I've been hunting hard since opening day. Our birds are henned up terrible right now so calling them in has been hard. I set up my Matrix Monday morning in a known roosting/strutting area and put out my B-Mobile and a hen decoy. This old boy let loose about 6:30 am and stopped about 7:00. I thought he had gone the other way when I noticed 6 hens making their way towards me coming through a locust grove with short geen grass. After watching the hens for about 10 minutes I hear him gobbling again and finally spot him with my Monarch's at about 120 yards. He strutting, gobbling, and following the hens. He strutted around making his way towards me for about 30 minutes with me ranging him about every 2 minutes. Well he puts on an awesome show strutting, drumming, gobbling as he's coming toward me. He finally gets within 45 yards but goes behind a multiflora rose bush so I can't shoot. Then it happened. He spotted B-Mobile, or Old Bob as I call him, and he immediately broke strut and started running towards Old Bob. Well he gets to Old Bob which is about 10 yards from my blind and proceedes to abuse Bob so bad that Bob's stake gets bent. I mean he spurred him, flogged him, pecked him, and generally whopped his #$%! At this point I cocked the hammer on my little 20 gauge, shot, and missed! He gobbled at the shot, proceeded to peck Old Bob, and then walked around behind him. This gave me a chance to reload . I cut at him on my mouth call and he gobbled. Well the 2nd shot found it's mark and I rolled him. It was an awesome hunt, getting to see that gobbler put on a show and flogg old Bob was priceless. I used an Encore 20 gauge, Nitro H276 heavy shot straight 7's, and a Indian Creek Black Diamond Strike .555. He was an old bird weighing 23.2 pounds, 10.5" beard, 1.25 and 1.5" spurs.
