DU_man_84 Posted April 23, 2008 Report Share Posted April 23, 2008 where ya located in central illinois, the bass are starting to move shallow, ive been out a twice bass fishing first time caught 3 3lb males and saw a biggun in the shallow northern bay prolly pushing 6lbs fished it for 2 hours and couldnt get it to commit, second time out caught 5 small males one decent 2lber, caught 6 outa the 8 on slow rolling spinner baits, one on texas rigged tube, and one on a jig, the white bass are starting up good on the illinois river, the big females are out feeding heavily, getting there food before they back off to lay there eggs, we managed bout 75 the other night in 2 hours, we got a tourney this sunday, we were up northern illinois and the crappie are starting up there, they were holding real tight to cover, but we managed our 20 limit in an hour, musky are real close to the spawn up here, lots of reports of them being caught, we couldnt swing one though sunday any questions pm me forgot to add, there is a cold front coming in this weekend it might put a lock on some of the fish, with the beds not made yet fish arent afraid to back off into deep water Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

muggs Posted April 24, 2008 Report Share Posted April 24, 2008 It's hard to beat spring crappie fishing. You can throw a rubber lizard for big spawning bass too. That's usually what I like to go for this time of year in Ohio. If you have good rivers near by, the muskie and pike should be pretty active since the water is still cool. rad_112176 Posted May 19, 2008 Report Share Posted May 19, 2008 We have been hitting large bluegill and crappie on jigs the past couple of weeks. We have been using 1/32 to 1/16 oz jigs with no weights and casting them across the beds. Then reel them in just enough to keep them off the bottom. The bluegill hit them and take off like crazy, but the crappie seem to just bite ahold and you can barely feel them. We have been using pink heads with white bodies. They seem to be working best.
