beagleboy
Does anyone have a hybrid vehicle? If you do, what vehicle do you own and what kind of gas mileage does it get.

Guest Finn
with $3.67 gas, I've gotta think about getting one. Really wanted to get a double cab 4x4, but can't imagine putting gas in one
Guest Andrea
I have considered a small car recently but I need my truck to haul all my stuff with. However, if it gets up around $4 a gal I am probably gonna start looking at cars and maybe buy a trailer to pull behind it, lol.

Really wanted to get a double cab 4x4, but can't imagine putting gas in one i have a double cab 4 x 4 with a duramax, and get 18mpg. i hear the 1/2 tons are getting 20. not too bad. plus, i can pull my 16,000 pound trailer with ease. (down to 10 mpg). sure, 75% of my driving doesn't require the truck, but so be it....
Shaun_300
Hybrids are great if you're going to do a lot of city driving, but I know with the GM ones they only electrically drive up to 25-30mph. So they're not really worth it if you do a lot of highway driving.

OJR
with $3.67 gas, I've gotta think about getting one. Really wanted to get a double cab 4x4, but can't imagine putting gas in one With my Chevy Colorado, 4 door crew cab, I am getting right around 20 mpg overall! It rides great and will get up to 90 mph as fast as I want it to.:) The one problem for people who need a big bed or towing capacity, it won't do it. It is a 4X4 and will go places I shouldn't be in. I am very pleased with it and will consider getting another one when this has 100,000 miles on it!
Guest Finn
I understand...but drive 35 miles each way to work and would love to be getting 48 mpg in a Prius for that trip!

Better start looking now......gas will be that much any time now.....probably already is in some places.
Adjam5
...There was a guy up here last year who figured a way to run used cooking oil in his diesel truck .... With restaurants paying to get rid of used cooking oil. It would make sense to convert a diesel to Bio-diesel or some sort of other renewable oil. Think about it... Free fuel and you could drive all you want without regard for fuel prices. There some hitches with cooking oil as fuel. It is not perfect. Adjam5
What I understand the issue to be with used cooking oil for fuel is.... You would have to start the vehicle with regular diesel, run it a bit then switch the fuel tank to the bio diesel and your good to go. When you have to shut the vehicle, you have to switch fuel tanks again, back to the regular diesel. Get the regular diesel in the fuel lines then shut off the vehicle. The cooking oil congeals too much with low temps unless there is a fuel tank pre heater. But Ahhh Yes, it would be nice to have free fuel. But how long will it be free once it has a value to it? Mountaineer
Try and find an old used Geo Metro! A friend of mine decided to sell his, so I picked it up for $200! Everyone I know is jealous, especially when I tell them I get 45 MPG in the thing. Sure beats the 14 MPG I get in my fullsize Chevy, and it'll sure be nice here soon when I start my internship in the coal mines over an hour away! Dubie
Thats the trick. Cooking oil needs to be heated. Or, you can do like my great granddad did in the thirties. Run a still, and turn your grain into alcohol for your gas burning vehicals...
Leo
There will be many cheaper used Hybrids for sale soon enough. Buyer beware, batteries may not be included! My wife and I looked at them very seriously last year. City mileage can be fabulous but highway mileage can be lower than a straight gas car. If you have a good mileage gas car and do lots of highway driving, the hybrid may cost you more in gas. Maintenance cost on those cars is significantly higher. Your probably looking at more dealer only parts than you are used to. We ran the numbers and for us it would have cost more. Depends on your situation and habits. Might be right for you might not.
