njbowhntr
Who has one? What brand do you shoot? What ammo? And the final question, how do you like it?
lil hunter
Re: .17HMR? Just bought a Savage, Using Hornady Varmint Express ammo, but haven't shot it yet. I'll get back to you in a week or two, after I get some rounds through it.

BLH
Re: .17HMR? .17 HMRs are the best small gun on the market in my opinion. It is one of the most versitile rifles out there. From squirrel hunting to coyotes, it is awsome; granted, bigger deer-size game aren't good targets, but any size varmit hunting is great with them. Awsome groups out to 150 yds. Very flat and very fun. Buy one and you will agree with me. I use it for anything smaller than 100 lbs. and it does a wonderful job.
Guest ronin
Re: .17HMR? I bought my wife the Savage bolt action with the HVY varmit barrel. I've always loved the 17 as long as the object to shoot is fairly close. I dropped a 35LB bobcat in it's tracks at 80 yards but missed a yote at 100 due to a heavy cross wind. Light bullets at 2500 FPS or less suffer the windage, IMO. Anyway, back to the gun: it's extremely accurate, 200 bucks or so out the door, relatively quiet, and brutal on small game. Guest ronin
Re: .17HMR? It's my wifes gun and she hasn't decided on a favorite yet. So far she's shootinh the CCI TNT, Hornady, and Remington. I think the last two are the same, though.
spyderpancake
Re: .17HMR? I have a Marlin 917v, with the heavy barrel. It is awesome! It will shoot 1/2" at 100 yards consistently. So far all of the ammo i have shot did well, but the Federal seemed to do the best. I use the CCI hollow-point for squirrel hunting, it doesn't blow up the animals quite as much. The Marlin has great accuracy, but the trigger is pretty bad, but it gets better with some use. I am planning on either getting the rifle basix trigger or a new trigger spring to lighten it up more. I got mine for $179 at wallyworld. IMO, it is the most accurate rifle for under $
tped
Re: .17HMR? I have the New England Arms single shot and have shot both the cci and hornaday with equally dismal results. So far very dissatisfied -- terrible groups
spyderpancake
Re: .17HMR? I have heard that about the New England's. You might get a good one or you might get a lemon. Check out rimfirecentral.com for good reviews on any of the different makes.
lil hunter
Re: .17HMR? I shot about 40 rounds outta mine today. Awesome gun. I only shot out to 125 yards, but it was extremely accurate at that distance. I shot Hornady Varmint Express(v-max) ammo.
DannoBoone1
Re: .17HMR? I have the laminated/stainless heavy barrel Marlin. Just busted a crow the other day WITH a X-wind @ 165 yds. Have played with it enough to know about how far to lead into the wind. It's so much fun, it has totally replaced my .22 LR. The only time it was grouped was right after I got it, and grouped 1/4" & 3/8" @ 75yds with the Hornady rounds. It seems to like Remington and CCI's equally. The crow came down with a CCI.
