bighoytman Posted April 27, 2008 Report Share Posted April 27, 2008 I have always used a 12ga for deer.I bought my son a 20 ga youth model that he has been using on deer.He shoots the copper solid slugs out of it.H e probably has killed 10 deer with it and only one has moved from where he hit it.It seems that with the same hit shooting the 12ga with winchester plat. slugs my deer run alittle ways.Could it just be the design of the slug transferring more energy into the animal.Im trying the Barnes slugs this year. I shoot a 20...love it...and I've had a few drop in their tracks and a few run a little ways then fall. I got a new 20 and will be getting a rifled barrel for it for this season. It may be just the brand of slug your using, may be because the 12ga slug is bigger then the 20ga slug...not sure how to answer...but I wouldn't worry about it much if you are both efficiently killing deer with your guns!
