My Ohio Gobbler

Got this Tom on the 2nd day of the season. I was pumped! Me and my Dad headed out on opening morning and had no luck what so ever. We had scouted just the day before and the birds were Sizzling, but come Monday they fizzled really bad. :(

Tuesday however...

We made are way in the woods in the dark and decided to wake the birds to see where they were. Hooted once and Boom, gobbling response! We head in that direction and we think we can make it a little closer to him if we got on this one small hill.

Step, Step, Step...GOBBLE! He is right there, we spot him in a little tree not far away at all. Just great, I though we're going bust him.

We back off a few steps and have to set up right on a trail by a small tree.

No decoys out nor do we dare to put them out, so we make the best of it.

I let him have a couple little yelps of my own, he gobbles right back! I pop a mouth call in and me and my dad teamed up and I called and he scratched the leaves around the tree and we sounded like a hen feeding and interested. He LOVED that and gobbled very well!

I'm shaking right about now... I'm so nervous at this point because it's about fly down time. I get my scope ready.

More leaf scratching and clucks and he keeps answering.

He Pichted down to my left about 40yards away into a small little dip. So I move the gun that way a little.

He Puffs up, almost going into strut. My dad scratches the leaves and I cluck.

He comes into a shooting lane...25 yards now.

I move the scope to him. He takes a step or two behind some brush.

A hen to our left starts yelping to him, he takes another step to the right towards her...he's in the wide open.... and I took the Shot!

It was an awesome feeling to have this bird down! We've had bad luck with turkeys for the past 2 years so this felt really good!

Took him just 15 minutes after legal shooting time started.

9 1/4" Beard - 1" Spurs - 19 Pounds

I'm HOOKED on Mouth Calls now! He drilled the H.S. Strut one I had and so far this season every bird I have called in has been with this call.

Here's some Pics,

Thanks All! I'm after my second and last bird for the season now, there's a big spurred son of a gun that avoided me these last couple days but he's bound to let his guard down soon.

Tominater, I think you ask me that question every time I post harvest Pics! :D Lol My county starts with a "P" :D;)

Deb, you need to get out soon! Birds are hot right now! Good Luck!
