2 things help for cold water fishing:

Slow down - Fish are a lot more lethargic in cold water, you need to really slow the presentation

Go smaller - Using a smaller bait seems to help a lot

ditto, my big thing is slow, slow, slow, it might seem boring and your gonna think you aint gonna catch nothing cause it to slow, it pays off

I agree on going slow, however, if your small baits are not working, try going to a large bait worked slow to the point of boredom....I like to deadstick a large senko (5") when the opener hits here in WI. I may catch fewer fish sometimes, but their size more than makes up for it. If you are fishing lakes, try the rivers. Those fish are less effected by water temps than lake fish. Good luck! Eric

Look for dark bottom bays on the north side of lakes.. they tend to warm up faster then the rest of the lake. Warm water gets the food chain moving... Also if the wind blows pretty hard in one direction for a day or two it will stack up the warmer surface water on the downwind side of the lake. That can get the fish active. Good Luck!
