Teacher Brings Gun to School

I agree that the teacher was wrong because he violated the law. But in principal, I think it's more than ok for teachers to carry guns at school and in fact, I recommend it. How many murders would have and have been prevented by gun owners carrying when a shooting spree has started? I'm not saying put a gun in every teachers hands but I am saying have backup where it's needed. Put it where responsible people can get to it and use it for the sole purpose of protection of students and faculty.

i agree that teachers should be allowed to carry a gun in school. he should, of course, have a permit. with a permit, i don't think a school should be allowed to make a rule that the teacher cannot carry. if this teacher has a ccw permit, he should get off and the law should be challenged. in fact, this may be a setup by the teacher to challenge the law.

or, the teacher may be a nut case himself, and will go to jail. time will tell.

Several lawmakers here in Arkansas are getting a law written up that would allow teachers and other school employees with ccp to carry at school. This law would challenge the federal gun free zone law, so they are trying to work out all the bugs before it is proposed.

Things they've addressed so far.

Manditory police training of all carriers.

Possibility of deputising with no pay from the police force.

Bell rang, gotta go.

Interesting article. Think in some situations where teachers are approved to carry first it would be good, might prevent some school shootings from taking place.

There are always two sides to a story, and one would kind of have to wonder if maybe the student threatened the teacher in some way and the teacher carried the gun due to fear. Still does not make it right, and the teacher probably should not ever have had the gun on school property in the first place, but might explain the story a bit better if that were the case. Of course if it were the case, likely it would never be brought up and it was not and I hate to assume anything, but you never really know.

"I just think he made a very poor decision," Goins said. "But, you can't say the students were never in danger. What if he tripped going down the hall and the gun went off? That is why this is such a serious situation. I was very pleased with the way it was handled. We had the situation resolved in a very short period of time."

Kind of got a laugh out of this as well. If the gun was loaded and if it had a round in the chamber, and if the teacher was to fall down, it might have gone off had the safety failed or not been on. Obviously a lot of if's, a comment from someone who probably knows very little about firearms.

I think I would agree overall with the idea of teachers who are approved to carry concealed and those teachers passing a mental evaluation being able to carry concealed at schools, but kind of doubt liberal lawmakers in this country will allow it to happen nationwide.

And if a meteor falls from the sky and hits the school the students could be in danger from that. Give me a break.

This Goins guy, the school superintendent, obviously isn't very well informed on the nuances of gun handling.

BTW - I support an individual's right to carry a concealed weapon in the workplace, regardless of where that workplace might be, as long as the individual has the proper training and licensing. In this case, I don't think the substitute teacher had either.

ya in some cases i think it would be alright to carry for personal protection!!But on th e other hand us americans always judge by the cover and thats what gets us in the messes our country is in!!!Just because a person is a teacher(public figure)we often give to much credit!!I'm sure pam smart was considered to be a good influince at first!!I know that when i went to school there was this teacher that went to school with my dad and they didn't see eye to eye!!(I think they had feelings for the smae girl)!!Well one day he got up on the wrong side of the bed and brought his personal life problems with him to school!!My locker stuck and everyone knew you had to give it a little nudge to get it to open and i was at my locker gaveit a nudge and wow he went off on me he grabbed me by my bycept(he had long nails to)and was pushing me around non the less we ended up in a all out confrontation and he was shoving me down the hall to the office!!To make a long story short he admitted his wrongs was suspened and i still have his nail marks in my arm!!I would have hated to see that guy packin!!
