Ethan Givan
With only one week left in Kentucky's season I finally got a jake. Went hunting with my cousin over at a farm where they grow lots of corn and soybeans. There isnt a whole lot of woods but there are lots of little patches here and there so it holds a good amount of turkeys. The morning started out raining and windy and we didnt here a single gobble. We made one set up but it didnt feel right so we got up and moved . At about 8:30 am we were watching a deer feed in the soybean field when we heard a bird gobble three times about 1/2 mile away. We started walking in that direction and in a half an hour we were set up on a field edge. We sat and called and called. Nothing. We were about to get up and leave when out of nowhere this jake flies across the creek and lands 8 yards in front of us. He spots us because he kinda of startled us. He starts making tracts for some thick stuff and I hammered him at 36 steps. He weighed 18 pounds and had a 5 inch beard. This was my third turkey I have ever killed. It was an awsome hunt.
