WV Spring Gobbler Down - PICS

Well I went out Friday morning, May 2nd and was able to connect on a WV Spring Gobbler. I only heard one gobble at daylight, and then I called in a hen around 9:00 AM or so. Other than that I hadn't really had much luck, so I was walking ridgetop to ridgetop and clucking down the hollows up in the late morning. Right at noon I happened to get a gobbler to respond to me so I quickly threw my decoy out in a small field and setup in the brush next to it. I called again and several turkeys began making their way towards me. I just clucked like a hen and this one had his attention on the decoy. He was the only one that I saw with a beard, though I couldn't get a good look at a few of them. I had decided to take this one if he came into range. He did, and I took the shot and he went to flopping. I was thrilled, and there is nothing like the feeling of throwing a gobbler over your shoulder and walking out of the woods.

I say he's a jake, he has a 5" beard and 3/8" spurs, which were still rounded off, not sharp yet. He weighed in at 17 pounds though, so there is a pretty good sized bird in the freezer now!

I hope all of you have had success and have a good and safe season.
