Putt....putt....

So I get to the state land by my boss place...saw one truck parked down from where I was going in. I hike in through the pine, across the open grass pipeline and down into the hardwoods. I work my way down in through a new spot tring to scout. This whole ridge was covered with scratchings.....all over...old and some that were probably a few days old so I figure it's at least a place to start. At the bottom is a gully and private land. So I decide to sit down in a spot where I can see well and start calling. I hear some yelping back at me to my right a ways off. I call again and wait...call again and some more yelping. I thought maybe it was a hunter. So I'm sitting there and I see this stick and I pull my binocso ut to look at it....dumb move. As I go to put them back in my pocket I hear "PUTT.....PUTT....putt putt putt"! I turn just in time to see a turkey running off from my right, slightly behind me no more than like 10-15 yards away! I didn't get a good look at it...I'm guessing it was a hen but gosh darn it. Oh well...considering all the scratching there, I doubt one turkey made those all and back when we had snow I had found 7 sets of tracks together including a few big sets so there got to be birds there. It doesn't seem to see alot of pressure either.

I may go Tuesday or Weds. morning depending because I think I'm going over to the new area 30 minutes away and being on the side of a open hill/power line, I hopefully might hear a bird there.
