Photo essay (dial-up beware)......

Don't get me wrong. Nobody........and I mean nobody.........likes to knock the block off an old sharp-spurred monarch any more than I do. But there's a whole lot more to the process of me enjoying a day afield in pursuit of an old tom. I decided to keep the camera in an open pocket today for my 6 1/2 hour journey around and across the Strut10 Ranch. These are some of the non-turkey things that I look forward to seeing each and every spring and, ultimately, the reasons I enjoy turkey hunting so much.

Of course........sunrises.

Very cool Don. Have to give you props for knowing the names of all that stuff instead of saying "flower," or "tree flower." :D

That's just me. i don't like looking at things and not knowing what they are...birds, flowers, trees, etc. I done edjumakated myself of such.. :D

btw--I think I see a morel under that one tree there.

You have better eyes than I. I looked high and low to get a pic of a morel with no luck. :(

Me too. Actually, look at your strawberry pic. I think that might be false strawberry, the leaf looks too toothed.

Nope. That's the real deal. It's of one of the best wild strawberry patches around these parts. About 3 or 4 more weeks and I'll be sitting in the middle of it one day. :D

I really liked this post...in fact, it has inspired me to do the same this Saturday. I'm turkey hunting with a friend at his property and I'm going to tote my camera with me and attempt to do a 'Photo Essay' of my own.

Thanks for the inspiration.

I'd probably be really really jealous if I knew what a teaberry was.

Evidently you don't have them out in the flatlands.

It's also known as wintergreen. It gets little red wintergreen flavored (no kiddin') berries. They look like little apples with a bit crisper texture than a blueberry.

And here I thought you were knowledgeable in the ways of the woods. :(
