wtnhunt
When are you planting? Would not put out fertilizer until just before or right at planting. This link may be helpful with figuring your fertilizer too if you are buying bagged fertilizer http://www.tulsamastergardeners.org/blackbox/fertcalc.htm
dogdoc
you gonna need A LOT of lime my friend. How big is your plot? If it's going to be a large plot you can hire someone to spread the lime for you. You might check around with local farmers or your local co-op to find suppliers of lime. sskybnd
this is what the soil analysis said, phosphorus is very high 90 ppm, potassium 64ppm, calcium 513ppm, magnesium 53 ppm, 1 acre, 4000 lbs of lime, fertilizer 500lbs of3-9-9 and 190lbs of 8-24-24 they also said it would have to sit in the ground atleast a month before i plant, so im going to get it ready next weekend being i have to work this weekend, i dont think it wil hurt when i plant it being we have water to water it during the hot days, i just dont want what happened last year and the deer ate the plot down to nothing about a week befor bowseason
dogdoc
you will lose all your nitrogen if you put it down a month before planting. I'd get the lime down immediately but I wouldn't recommend putting the fertilizer down until planting--but heck, those guys at the whitetail institute know more than me. Ravin R10 man
Get the lime out ASAP..dont put out the fert. until your ready to plant..if it rains hard you will have it washed away and some nitrogen will leach if its not worked into the soil. sskybnd
called the farm supply today to price the lime, get this if i buy it in bulk it only will cost me $80.00, and i can rent there spreader for $50.00 a day, and becouse i hardley have room to get the 4 wheeler back to where the plots going to be and my stand, i'l have to buy bagged lime, and haul it back there on the 4 wheeler trailor. thats going to cost me $300.00, but what can i do?? dogdoc
but what can i do?? can you load a thousand pounds or so in a trailer or the back of a truck? Powdered lime is a mess to deal with though. I guess pay the 300 bucks---it will be worth it in the long run. todd
Guest tdm69
I have the same problem but here's what the guy at the elevator suggested. A five gallon bucket will hold between 60 and 70lbs. We need 2000lbs, so around 30 buckets give or take a few. Luckily we have access to all the five gallon buckets we need. It also helps us since the lime can't get wet we don't have to spread it all right away, since we have lids. Easier to get it in where we need it also. Just an idea. sskybnd
i dont think the bucket thing will do, becouse i need 60 bags and if 2000lbs is around 30 buckets i wood need around 60 buckets, think it will be easer to load the truck with the 4 wheeler and than load the trailor with the lime and when we get to the lease unload the wheeler and pull the trailor threw the woods.
