Deb
I went down to my brother's camp and moved one of my stands to look over a clearcut area and down into a thicket/creekbed/bedding area. The tree that I put the ladder stand in is a lone 3" diameter red oak that has some low hanging limbs that cover me quite well. I have a planted field behind me. Also, about 30 yards away is this gawdawlfull wild rose, honeysuckle vine, honeysuckle bush mess. ( please GOD, if I'm fortunate to get a deer, don't let it expire in there!!) Well,--- I am pumped to hunt this spot!!! While I'm fiddling with the gun rail, who do I see hawling a-- down the trail to the creekbed, a very nice size doe! I'm a happy camper to say the least!. The hunting on this property has been very tough these last 3 years due to 90% of the woods being clearcut. All of the deer we harvested, we've taken as they come onto the property form our neighbors. And the smart/mature ones come after dark. The farmer has planted fields, but there is VERY little cover now. If we can just deal with it for a few more years, the pines should be tall enough to provide some cover.
