Well it started off as a pretty slow day with a few birds gobblin and little activity early. We slipped in early trying to get under a sly rio on the stick but that didnt pan out. We all (Covehuntr) (Poncho) (I) decided to hit the miles and miles of county roads to try and find an ol' gobbler soakin the sun. Well about 10 min. into our road journy both my passangers were passed out i couldnt wake them even when i hit big washout at about 30 mph. We drove and drove and drove prob about 15 miles and seeing very little activity a few hens here and there.

I decided to run by our honey hole one more time to see if any birds where in the power line field which was a favord spot, shure enough there where 2 boss toms and about 3 hens. As i hit the breaks the sleepers awoke almost as if they dedected the birds in there sleep. As we pondered at the birds clear on the other side of the section we put a plan together. By this time another swinger hit the field and made to tom count to 3.

We where going to make a move on the single and leave poncho up on the road to watch these birds at 3/4 amile away. As we moved poncho kept us up to date on the birds the 2 toms had moved off but the single was workin our way. We close the distance then he says the single disappeared but the 2 where back in the high line field. So we start to sneak that way. We where several hundred yards from them and poncho was keeping us up to par with there every move. Finally we get a visual on the 2 toms and 1 hen they are about 200 yards out in the middle of this field. We get up on the creek weve been walking for 2 hours or so, and the only way we could close the distance was to slip into the creek. So we take the plunge and my breath rushed out of my lungs as the 50 sum odd drgree water soaked me.

We slipped up to the birds to find they have moved off about 100 yards further away, now they are at 150 or so. We put a plan together to have poncho watch the birds and we would start calling and he would let us know when they started our way. Dave starts calling and we couldnt see anything because we where in a wash out. Ponchos says there looking then he said ones coming fast get ready. So im set up looking where they where last spotted about 3 min goes by and it happens, i see a big ol black blob out of the corner of my eye about 35 dgrees to my right. He was right on top of us at 25 yards and i couldnt move. By the time i get both eyes on him he has started to move off. My heart sunk and i wash so pissed because we had come that far and now nothing to show. As they feed off back to the field poncho still has his eyes on them. As we sit and ponder we get the news that they are gone and he cant see them anymore. Well we sit for 20 min. in discust then ponchos says i see them there bedded up under an old blow down about 200 yards from you.

So we follow the creek on around to get as clsoe as we can, poncho says they are 100 yards from us but we cant see anything. Finally i can see them when i stand all the way up but insted of 100 they are 200 what a bummer. Now weve walked 400 or so yards through ice cold water and they are way out of range. Dave calls with no response they just sit in the shade with out a care in the world. Prob 30 min goes by and ive been checkin on them bout ever 5 minutes on the last time i can only see 1 bird. Then i catch movement about 100 yards out and hes closen the distance. I get set up with dave over my shoulder and he is comin fast. I have some spots ranged and finally he passes my 50 mark. I think in my head you are dead now sucker. As 50 goes to 40 he starts into the woodline i tell dave to hit him a little and he corrects his course. 40 goes to 30 and i cant take it any longer, i unleashed a load of 6's and the tough ol' bird hit the sooner pay dirt hard. I was so filled with emotion from so many highs and lows you cant explain it. I have to thank drew and dave for helping me with this one, there is absolutly no way i could have done this. Poncho excpecially he watched these birds at over 3/4 a mile away with sometimes nothing more than a head to look at. And Dave he was there when we really needed a plan i would say something and he would say somthing and we would meet in the middle and it worked. This one will go down in the books forever.

After the high fives and celebration we had a dang near mile walk back to poncho for some pics. we got out of the truck at 8:30 and found it again at 1:30.
