dsharp01
Well things are starting to look up here in WNY. Roosted 2 birds last night. I was so excited that I didn't sleep much. Got set up on one of them this morn and boy was he hot. He must have gobbled 100 + times to me and a real hen. Things were going to go extremely well, and then SHE started. A hen finaly woke up and she was smack dab in the middle of us. I was 75 yrds out and she was 40 yrds from him. I had a great set-up along a logging road, the only problem was he wasn't playng along. So I belly crawled 25 yrds closed to a bend in the roadway, made a few calls and then SHE pitched down flying about 200 yrds down the hill. He was still answering my calls from the roost so I thought I still had a chance. But then everything went silent. He pitched off up to a clear cut abot 250 yrds up the hill, opposite the hens direction. And then I heard another hen up at the clear cut and then the first hen wizzes by headed in the same direction. So i decided to bak out and let them have him seeing how there is no way to get to the clear cut without alerting them. It's still early and now I'm obsessed with this bird. We will meet again another day.
