Re: 4-wheelers

Honda Rancher, no questions about it. I would stay away from Polaris because the people I know that have/had one have had nothing but problems with them. They have all said they wish they would have bought something else. Most of them have since sold their Polaris's and bought Honda Ranchers. My future in-laws bought a Rancher ES and there have been no problems with it all all. I don't like it because of the electric shift because I am used to foot shift with my own ATV. The automatic might be a little easier though. I think if I was in the market for one, that's what I would go with. If you go with Honda, get green so you can hide it easier if you're using it to hunt.

Sell it brother.. I mean Polaris is the worlds most popular automaitc. grin.gif they gotta have so many problems smirk.gif

Their PVT transmission has only been arround for what... 14 years. We have a Polaris Sportsman 500 h.o and a 700. Both no problems, great automatic and smooth and quiet. Also probily the best ride of any ATV. They aren't the least expensive but boy will you be happy. If not a polaris I would go with a Yamaha. Those two i know are konna be your best bets.

Re: 4-wheelers

HONDA...HONDA....HONDA.

Many people I know have bought other brands for some reason and keep coming back to a Honda. 8 of my buddies own Hondas and are extremely happy with them.

My uncle has a Polaris to be different and sneaks to the dealer all the time when he gets it fixed. (I went to HS with the maintenance guy at Polaris)

I'd opt for the Rancher AT.

Let us know what you get.

Re: 4-wheelers

Personally I will vote for the Kawasaki. Four wheelers are like any other vehicle, as long as you take care of it, it will take care of you.

All of the brands are pretty reliable. What you should do is determine what you need in a four wheeler, what you are going to use it for, what size (cc) you are looking for ( you can get as small as around 200 cc or up to over 750 cc's). There are many variables. Once you have determined that, then go to the different dealers and test ride what they have and then decide for yourself. Asking on here what type to get, is similar to asking what is the best caliber of rifle for deer. good luck, have fun and be safe.

Re: 4-wheelers

You'll get about as many different answers as there are replies but like someone already said, no atv will be maintenance free. All the major companies have very reliable machines now, yes even Polaris. Polaris had a lot of troubles in the past but have worked them out.

The best advice is to decide what size you want, then find friends with atvs in that size group that will let you test ride them. Most dealers won't let you do a very good test ride. After riding as many as possible, go with the one that fits you best.

grin.gifYeah, I noticed that already. I am mainly looking for something for casual riding grin.gif I will not be doing any crazy stuff on it. When I said maintenence free, I guess I meant one that is known to be good to go and not cause a whole lot of problems. Thanks everyone for your input wink.gif

Re: 4-wheelers

Would recommend the honda, but would check out some reviews if I was you before making any decisions. There are unbiased reviews out there(mags and tv show) on all the bikes mentioned above. Seems honda is consistently right there at the top. I watched a program on the outdoor channel or outdoor life not toolong back where they reviewed and rated several aspects of most major 4 wheeler manufacturers. Kawasaki, honda and yamaha in the 350 to 500 class bikes seemed to be at the top. Bombardier, polaris and artic cat did not seem to fare as well in the testing they put the bikes through.

The yamaha is a belt drive, we almost went with it when we bought our new honda back in Nov, but decided against it.

Re: 4-wheelers

I personally like Honda. Have towed too many Polaris back to camp. My parents do have 2 Polaris Sportsman 500 and they work great for how they ride. They don't hardly go over 20 mph and they don't play on them. However they just seem cheap to me. I would not recommend the Sportsman 700. Bill bought one and the thing keeps shredding belts and Polaris cannot figure out why. If you want a good idea of what you are needing PM me with how much you are wanting to spend and what you will be using it for. I will put together a list of ATV's for you. I have been riding for over 20 years and know the pros and cons of most quads.

Re: 4-wheelers

Suzuki Ozark for me. Here's why. I'm only 5'6" and 175lbs so it's not going to be pulling much. I'm not going to race it or pull a plow with it. My only uses will be spreading seed, fertalizer and covering seed.

The only thing I will carry is my deer stands and probibly carrying a deer out of the woods.

The land around here is rolling hills with some muc, but I'm not into the wild stuff so I won't get a 4X4.

Figure out your uses befor you throw out a bunch of cash on something you can't use or don't need.
