sureshot
there are getting to be lots, 2 were spotted south of me at scout lake sask, this winter just 20 miles from the USA border, I got a call from a rancher who has lost 6 jan calves [200 plus pound] to come and try to get the coyotes doing it, I did a few calls and nothing so i went for a day hike in the pasture, no coyote tracks at all, just like they moved out, but did find a few big cat tracks at the dam, the cats have scared the coyotes off, plus his neighbor just lost 2 calves last week also, I also found 6 dead deer in the pasture, something has to be done, If you get caught shooting one here you will be in jail longer than shooting a person but something has to be done, I know if the ranchers see them they are burried, its nice to see them but when they are killing a few thousand dollers I will not look down at them for protecting there livlyhood instead of a animals! buckee
Can't the Rancher get a menace permit, for you to use, and make it all legal ? Sounds like a calf decoy would work great.
sureshot
nope, the law is the law, I am sure if he could prove it was killing calves he might get off with the cat confescated if he went by the rules reporting it right away , if not I can not see the judge charging them but you never know, seems like the animals have more say than the humans now days, look at the gopher problems here, we are talking millions of the buggers, peopel are shooting 1-2000 22 rounds a afternoon at gophers, and killing over 50 % they say,all in a small 40 acre pasture and not denting the population, they are cleaning up everything green, this is the first year poisen was allowed for a few years becouse it hurt other animals, I am all to protect animals and everything but I think we have to protect our livelyhood first, I am the first person who would be out there to help a animal don't get me wrong,I love them and love to watch them, but I believe we are higher up the food chain and we need to survive before them, if a badger was to die by eating a poisened gopher or I had to pay thoasands of doller for food for my cattle and my kids get hungry becouse I spent so much money on hay, I will take the dead badger anyday!same as the couger, either dead cat or dead cow out of my pocket I will have to say dead cat as much as I love top see them,my family and survival comes first in my eyes! Illinois59
Yes, the population is on the rise. Watch your self and your livestock. We have land in Montana and have seen more lion activity in recent years.
