Dubie
Story Eh? Well, I set up a bait site on a little piece of public land. Its a very thick marshey spot, with lots of dead fall and thick cover. I cleared out about a 20x20 yard spot, put in my barrel and my tree stand. I used 60-30-10 sweet feed for fill, and added old bacon, scraps from my deer season, and grease all over the ground. After two weeks, this male started comming in. I sat the stand with my bow on the 12th of may. THe bear came in a little before legal light and presented me a broadside. However, something was wrong with my bow. One of the cams wouldn't turn, and I couldn't come to full draw. I had to leave the stand after dark with the bear still tthere and was quite busted. I pulled out the rifle and sat again the next night. The bear was being much more careful this time. He must have winded me, as once he got about 20 yards from my stand, he growled and ran. On the 14th, I tried to intice the bear to be more careless and come in faster. I fried up some bacon. then fried some smoked fish and mashed it all up. I also used some pepermint and vanilla extract in a spray bottle. It worked. About 10-15 min before last light he came in,started sniffing at the fish I smeared on a tree stump and gave me my broadside shot. I hit him a little high, but got both lungs.I listened to him crashing through the brush then lie down. It was already starting to get dark when I heard him stop weezing a few moments later. I looked, but there was no way I was finding a black bear in the black shadows of the undergrowth with my flashlight. I returned in the morning, located the bear right away, took my pictures and skinned him and quarted him for hauling out of the woods. I'll be having the taxidermist make me a rug.
