Turkeygirl
Gosh it was cold! Didn't roost any birds last night, but went back to the same spot this morning on the state land. Thought I heard some gobbling way down the ridge, towards the bottom by the road, but some guy was parked down on that road down aways, otherwise I would have gone in. I get myself comfy in this awesome blind - a huge log fallen on top of another log in front of a tree...very well hidden and a natural gun rest:D Well I did a few yelps off and on but did mostly clucks and purrs with my mouth call...nothing. Then about 7:30 I'm freezing and decide to get up and move to somewhere else. I get my decoy and decide to walk to the side of the ridge to see what the woods look like below and I hear a gobble back behind me, close enough to make me throw my decoy back out and run back to my hide out, heart pumping. About 5 minutes go by and BOOM! I hear a shot, but I feel like it was farther down and across from where I heard the bird...I think down towards where the truck is. I didn't hear or see anything after. I don't know if the gun shot spooked the bird, or maybe he did get shot...the hills can distort the sounds. I feel though if the bird I heard had been shot, the shot would have been louder...I don't know. It got windy and started raining and just outright nasty and I got out of the woods. Working custodial but going to try and take Thurs. and Friday off and go back there and maybe to the other land.
