Looking at getting one here soon so I can get back on these here forums. My little bro has pretty much trashed the computer there at the house so after I get a truck here I'm going to be looking at getting one.

What would ya'll say I should get? Going to need quite a bit of space on it to put photoshop and my camera software and what not on there. Not to sure about a price range yet so some ideas would be good.:D

We have nothing but Dell computers. My mom, sister and me all have a laptop. My mom and I bought the lowest price ones about 2 years ago, think they were around $499 a piece, basic stuff, only 512 mb of ram and 40 gb hard drive, but I went about bought 2 one gig memory sticks for $30 a piece earlier this year to speed mine up a bit, and plan on getting an external HD for it sometime soon. I really don't store much on it, and everything I need saved for school goes on my flash drives. Our desktop is a dell also (2 yrs old) and the only problem we had with it was the CD/DVD drive went out, but one call to dell and the next day someone was here to replace it (under warranty).

Get the most computer you can for your money, dell has some good deals, but there are other good computers out there too, does not hurt to shop around and compare. I would probably not hesitate to buy dell if I was buying a laptop, think it depends on what you want to do with it though Cody.

Dell makes great machines....

If youre going to buy one off a shelf I would suggest a Toshiba. I have had one for the past 7-8 years. I use it to run autocad and other large programs. Its still going. However, im getting solidworks soon so I have to upgrade.... :(

To run Adobe programs like Photoshop, InDesign, and anything else you might use to manipulate images, Mac's are the most compatible. I have never owned one, but throughout school we did all of our model imagery on Mac's and the ease of use and the smoothness of the programs were unmatched by a PC.

Besides, the new Macs are amazing looking machines!!!

We just bought a Toshiba that was on sale at Best Buy for $500. Works like a champ. WiFi and Network capable off the shelf. External hard drives are super cheap too.

"

You can't go wrong with a Mac. No viruses to speak, spyware etc."

Not even hackers support Macs. LOL

I have had a Toshiba and currently have an HP. No problems with either. I have no intentions of buying a Mac, I used one at my old job and really saw no advantage peronally. Their commercials are pretty good though.

I highly recommend Dell or HP if you are looking for a laptop. We own a newer model Dell laptop and it runs like a dream with Windows Vista and Photoshop CS3/ImageReady CS3. :D I also know a couple people with some HP laptops that I had the chance to play around with and they seem to be pretty good quality, too. None of them had any complaints.

I had a Toshiba laptop and it was one of the worst rip-offs I ever bought (...besides my Alienware Desktop...)! Under warrenty I had the fan burn out in it 2 times and then it burned out again after my warrenty expired and now the laptop has been sitting in my closet ever since. I refuse to replace the fan again out of pocket. The keypad also died right after the warrenty expired, just before the fan burned out again. I didn't travel with this laptop, it was treated like my baby and kept safe and never abused, and yet it still self-destructed itself. I had a couple other internet friends who's had similar experiences with Toshiba laptops and the fans in them burning out or the keypads wearing out too quickly. So, I wouldn't personally recommend them to anyone after my experiences.
