Master_Chief
Yea how much will that cost us? I always wondered why their was braille on the drive throughs when the blind couldn't tell denominations.

nativetexan
I always wondered why there was braille on the drive thru's because blind people shouldn't be DRIVING. However, I can see a little where they are coming from. It would suck not knowing if you just got ripped off. Never thought about it. BUT, there are ways for them to manage. Kinda have to take things like this with a grain of salt because it is going to cost a ton to completely redesign and produce new money to meet the needs of a few. Trying not to sound insensitive here, but dang. I rarely carry cash on me anyway and just use my debit card. Why can't they do the same? Shaun_300
I know our bills have a tactile feature at the upper right hand corner of the bills, it's not braille, but groupings of 6 raised dots. A $5 has one group, $10 has 2 groups, $20 has 3 groups, $50 has 4 groups and a $100 has 2 groups, but a wider space between them to distinguish from a $10 bill. This was made for the blind so they can tell what bill they have. They also have bank note readers that the blind can use, you stick the bill in it and it tells them what they have. http://www.bankofcanada.ca/en/banknotes/accessibility.html

PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
I used to frequent a small restaurant where the usual cashier was a totally blind man. We had to tell him what we had and what bill we were giving him but everyone was watching and I heard reports that his till count was more often more correct than when sighted people were cashiers. It was sort of humbling that this guy was able to function so well at something that even sighted folks had problems with. A bunch of years ago I also had the opportunity to show a totally blind 8 or 9 yr old boy a flintlock pistol. Man his fingers flew over that pistol. I spent about 5 minutes or so saying now see this as I guided his hands to the various parts of the gun. He just beamed after I was done. A few minutes later the father came back and said Thank You you just made a young mans day. To which I replied your are welcome but you are a little wrong because your son just made my day. He teared up and just shook my hand and walked away. If we all just take a minute or two when the opportunity presents itself it is amazing what we can do.
