bugleward
Hey folks: It really does happen to someone. This time my 13 year old son is the lucky one. This is his second try. I have over 40 sheep apps in and have never drawn. Sometimes life's just not fair. On the bright side; I still get to go sheep hunting. My daughter drew hers there 4 years ago at age 12 -- her first try. Some people have all the luck.

bugleward
Hey Steve, we drew both times in area 1. I have a hot tip there are at least three booners in there. I also know the area pretty well. We are hoping to to get in there a film it for TV. He is a great shot and took a booner lope last year on his first big game hunt in central WY on public ground. bugleward
Hey There Steve: How did you get to pilot peak? The front side looks like it would take a professional climber to get there. The back side is about 12 miles from the trailhead on some pretty scary trails. If I were going it alone I would be ok but my boy may have a problem with some of those cliffs. To tell the truth some of them buggers made me pucker up a bit. It's a bit hard to be reassuring to the kids when I'm about to wet my pants. I was never afraid of heights until I started hunting sheep. Once in Montana it shook me so bad I locked up. I would never have figured I of all people would lock up. Geez I used to work derricks in the oil fields. Shook me so bad I actually got sick. I even cried and started talking to God as if he were riding along as my hunting buddy. In one of those spots I would have had at least a minute to say a prayer before I hit the bottom if I went over the edge. Last time I was there I could have killed a good ram every day. I think we will be ok but I would love to get all the help possible.
stevebeilgard
i had an outfitter friend of mine pack us in up crandall creek(?). drop camp on the south side of the peak. there is a closer way, through silver gate montana. good trail in. where i shot my sheep, it was loser to silver gate than our camp. it is a challenge in that area, but i love it. sheep live in bad places, so that's where i go to hunt them. i actually walked the border of yellowstone park, looking east most of the time. good luck, ward.
