I can't have an opinion?

What branch? What does it matter? But since you ask I was in the Army from 86-90. 82nd airborne division for part of it.

Not everybody grew up around guns. You must not have served or you'd know that not everyone is comfortable with them. I watched these young kids flynch when they dry fire for goodness sake. Not all, not most, but it happened. That IS the reason they switched. Shootability.I read a study once about how many guys actually even shot there weapon in combat in WWII. The numbers were very low. They wanted everyone to shoot. Then in Vietnam they did too much shooting hense the 3 round burst in modern 16's. There is no way they are going to switch every weapon to a .308 because it penetrates better or kills better in some folks eyes. I doubt we'll ever see a caliber change. Think of the pure logistics involved. Think of the politicians who's have to be convinced to part with the coin.

You want to send me to the desert for 1 month give me an M16 and as many rounds as I can carry. If shite hits the fan 400 rounds are better than 200.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Not shooting anyone and I do respect your opinion, I am a bit surprised that recoil from a 5.56 would scare soldiers in training, that is all. Like I said in my previous reply, I can totally understand intimidation being a factor for those who were not around guns, but would think that would be a factor for any caliber. Would imagine that once soldiers saw that there was little to no recoil from the M-16, shooting a .308 or 7.62 would not be an issue. Still am surpised we have guys in training who are scared of recoil from an M-16. I do agree with you about politicians and the chance of a change happening not being likely and understand your point about ammo carrying ability too. Just a discussion, with opinions.

And no I did not serve. It was not because I did not want to. Failed my physical at the meps station in Memphis in 1992 when I was trying to get in the air force, which really sucked. Was in the greatest shape of my life at that time in my early 20's. After failing the physical, with encouragement from the recruiter I spent a good chunk of cash out of my own pocket trying to get a release from a cardiologist who was related to the recruiter. Rather than give me a release like he was supposed to, he wanted to put me on meds and said there was no way he would give me a release to enter.

I work for DRT Ammo and we are very invested in this concern. We have talked with several members of Congress about the invalidity of the Hague Convention in the present conflict. the Hague Convention deals with conflicts against organized armys fighting under the flag of a sovereign nation, not the case here. We have proved time and again that our 5.56 can get the job done and yet because it is a hollow point, No Dice. There is no appreciable difference in recoil between the 5.56 and the 7.62 in an AR format. I have shot both on a regular basis demoing our ammo for various government and municipal agencies. I have an AI 5.56 and an AI 7.62 in both AR format and bolt action.
