Outdoorzman
According to biologists, there have been only two people in Maine/New England history, (documented), that have ever been jumped by a coyote while turkey hunting. Mine was obviously a case of mistaken identity rather than an "attack" but that's how it's labeled. Though most likely healthy, I am in the middle of rabies treatments, the cost of which will reach $3000. No insurance but I found a hospital that has taken over the treatments and is willing to bill me. Good thing because I shelled out $450 when it happened and the banks dry! I'm interested in hearing similar accounts from other states? Go to www.ushuntingtoday.com to see the news brief on my encounter. It's going to circulate in other areas as well, I'm sure. huntinguide
cant say ive heard that one before, did you get a shot off?
Outdoorzman
Nope. Knocked me on my arse and retreated backwards as quick as it appeared. My buddy Orrin spun around and couldnt take the shot because we were too close together. I was calling for Orrin who was only 3 feet in front of me. Chris Parrish said I musta sounded pretty darn good! LOL!!
Outdoorzman
I see there are not alot of responses to this yet. Hopefully you believe me because this really happened. If you haven't clicked on www.ushuntingtoday.com to check it out, here's a brief... While calling aggressively for a friend, I was nailed hard by a lunging coyote I never saw coming. It hit me on the left side from heavy cover, knocking me completely over and ontop of me. It sunk it's teeth into 3 layers of shirts to leave deep punctures and teeth drag marks. Could have been much worse if not for the clothing. My buddy spun around as it jumped back into the woods but couldn't shoot past me. It also knocked a filling right out of my mouth. Story has just been sold and other versions will appear nationally as well, and it might be recreated with interviews on an upcoming hunting dvd. Really....this happened! lol!! I have 6 rabies shots so far to prove it, with 3 more to go!
wtnhunt
Have had yotes come in one me while turkey hunting and calling in the past, and have shot a few in the face with turkey loads. Actually earlier this year while out turkey hunting I had quite an unusual experience with a yote, one I will never forget. I did not get bit fortunately, but had a pretty close call, one that left me in disbelief over what had happened. That story is pretty long, think I have a copy of it saved somewhere. If you are interested in reading it let me know.
Ambuscher
I've had bobcats sneak in on me, but never a yote.

pendog
I have had yotes sneak in on me but i saw them before they bit me. I turned around one time to find a yote about 15 feet behind my tree, he was crouched down and truly sneaking in. Several other times i have seen them come across the field sneaking and try to get my decoys, one time both me and my bro in law shot the same yote as he got within 30 yards of our setup. To many of them anymore!
smo
I've heard of yote's and bobcat's mistakenly stalking a turkey hunter, but none jumping on the hunter.

Outdoorzman
Yeah it was a shocker for sure. Can't seem to find anyone that's been jumped by a yote but me and that other guy but sounds like a couple of you had some REAL close calls that might have turned into a scenario like mine. One thing I probably needn't have done was use the HS scent-away in fresh earth. No need for it while turkey hunting but I like showering up before a good hunt, especially when the weathers warm and you tend to sweat. So I was scent-free, fully camouflaged up in Realtree APG with a leafy suit on, and was going bonkers with aggressive turkey calls on my HS Black Magic slate. Had 4 more painful shots in the rear two nights ago and one today in the shoulder. That's a total of 7 so far and two more to go over the next 2 weeks. Chances are good the yote was not infected but stats show some can be in our area where rabies is a problem.
