Tominator
Yeah. I'm betting maple bats will be outlawed soon. Too many of them shattering. Sooner or later a pitcher is going to get one too.

texastrophies
I am suprised you don't hear more about people getting hurt at baseball games. Not so much by bats, but the line drive foul balls. If you watch a game on tv, watch when the camera zooms through the audience behind the dugouts, just look at how many people are not paying attention to the game. Once or twice a year, a supplier gives me tickets to the Astros, his seats are in the third row behind the visiting teams dugout (third base line), when we set there, I always make it a point to do 3 things, to set in the seat closest to homeplate, always have my glove on and pay attention to the game, so I can stop or deflect any balls or bats coming towards my family. mehunter
I read last week where the family of a little leaguer is suing the metal bat maker because their son (who was pitching) got hurt by a ball that was hit. They say the balls go faster when hit off a metal bat.
craig mack
I dont think I ever remember watching a season where I seen so many broken bats. They're constantly breaking!!!! I'm surprised you dont see more injuries due to those things flyin' around.
TCO
I read last week where the family of a little leaguer is suing the metal bat maker because their son (who was pitching) got hurt by a ball that was hit. They say the balls go faster when hit off a metal bat. People like this make me mad. The bat did not hurt their son. They chose to let their son play baseball knowing that they used metal bats. MCH
It's very hard to prove negligence when everyone is expecting baseballs to be hit into the stands. But if MLB continues to use these maple bats, negligence will be easy to prove....which already may be the case with this lady.
muggs
On top of the wood they're using, the players are using bats with really small handles. I think that's the bigger problem.

I think that's the bigger problem. i agree its not so much the type of wood but the size of the handles.
