Guest goblega22
Hey, I have this old smith and wesson revolver, I believe it is .32 cal, it only has 4 digits at the bottom of the handle for the serial number. Can anyone please give me some information about it. I have only found similar revolvers but they all have the thumb thingy on the left side of them, this one has none. It is nickel plated. I believe it is a 5 inch barrrel. And it is NOT a top break.
aksheephuntress
....looks like and early model black powder-rimfire pistol?? -Is that an ejector plunger-something-or -other,under the barrel for the spent casings?? -Neat!....even though it is in real rough condition... -I have seen some of these in a .22 caliber...I don't know much about the details for you, though...this is my guess, on your pistol...Someone will be along here, soon, that will be able to tell you more...Thank for posting- ...and welcome to the Realtree forums! wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Have an old smith and wesson 32-20 that is similar. The chambering information on the old revolver I have is on the right hand side of the barrel if you were holding the grip, and has more information on the top behind the sight. It is Not really worth anything, and ballistically is very challenged, but the gun I have does have some history and a little sentimental value to me. Hoosierbuck
".32 Hand Ejector 1st Model aka Model 1896. Serial Range 1 - 19712. Made from 1896 to 1903. .32 S&W Long., This was the first solid frame S&W. The cylinder release was accomplished by pulling forward on the ejector rod. (This one looks like it's had a little shade tree gunsmithing on it. ) Dean" From a guy who knows some stuff, reposted by me. I don't know stuff. PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
The .32 Hand ejector Model of 1896 would in my estimation be correct also. This S&Ws first revolver with a swingout cylinder. It came with either a 3.25, 4.25 or a 6 inch barrel. Either blued or nickel plated. The company name , address, and patent dates are stamped on the cylinder instead of on the barrel. There were approx 19712 manufactured between 1896 and 1903. In exc condition it would be worth about $1100, VG $700, Good $550 Fair $300, Poor 150. The subsequent model of 1903 had the sliding cylinder latch. Got this info from the Catelog of Firearms 2008 edition.
Guest goblega22
Thank all of you very very much for your information! Do you think it would be a good idea to have it re nickeled? Any ideas how much that would cost? And it is it a 32 long?
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
According to my book yes it is as that is the only caliber listed.
oldksnarc
If it's what they say it's worth, you don't want to do anything to it. Original finish. Any nickel or bluing job would de-value it.
