Deb
Has anyone heard that used coffee grounds are good for putting nitrogen back into the soil? I have a Boston Stoker coffee shop close to me and can get probably a 5 gallon bucket of grounds a day form them, free. Does anyone think this would be a good(cheap) way to amend the soil for a 1/2 acre food plot? Put it out after I roundup and before I till it up?? Any thoughts? Tominator
I'd say if you can get 5 gallon buckets of it, yep, you're in good shape. Coffee grounds are a decent source of slow release nitrogen, and it will amend the soil a bit. I add it to my compost piles. I wondered about the analysis for coffee grounds, so I googled it and saw one site gives the analysis of 2-.33-1 as an analysis for N-P-K. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Fertilizer-717/Coffee-Grounds.htm
wtnhunt
Used to use coffee grounds around our rose bushes and trees here. Would take a lot of it for a food plot of any size, but free is free I guess, would not hurt.
Deb
Another question, do you think the oder would put off the deer? What I till under shouldn't be a problem, but if I add more after my plot is up is what I'm wondering about. Thanks for the info, Tominator. My grandma used grounds for her roses, wtnhunt. She used 'cigar butt' tea, too.
Tominator
Another question, do you think the oder would put off the deer? I don't think the odor will last that long once it's tilled in. I don't think even the stuff left on top will have an odor; even if it does, I'd almost bet it won't bother the deer.
