TreeWalker
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies You're right Buckee, and I shouldn't have come across that way......not all are bad, but a person really needs to do some research before choosing a cause..... Speaking of donations and funds cut in half or better after admin fees.........kinda reminds me of the NRA......if they would quit sending me newsletters and leaflets in the mail, they would save the money they need instead of waste it..... buckee
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies New Prayer Now I sit me down in school Where praying is against the rule For this great nation under God Finds mention of Him very odd. If Scripture now the class recites, It violates the Bill of Rights. And anytime my head I bow Becomes a Federal matter now. Our hair can be purple, orange or green, That's no offense; it's a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise. Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice. For praying in a public hall Might offend someone with no faith at all In silence alone we must meditate, God's name is prohibited by the state. We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks. They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible. To quote the Good Book makes me liable. We're taught to worship birds and bees, and even bow to rocks and trees. But we can't make mention of the one, who created all this, for his Sons. We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen, And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King. It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong, We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong. We can get our condoms and birth controls, Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles. But the Ten Commandments are not allowed, No word of God must reach this crowd. It's scary here I must confess, When chaos reigns the school's a mess. So, Lord, this silent plea I make: Should I be killed; My soul please take! christsavedme
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Just thought I would try to leave a little devotion for everyone. I got it from one of my many outdoor devotion books. I think this is someting I am going to start doing. "Tracking Deer and Their Maker" Read John 14:9 Successful deer hunters know the importance of looking for "the sign." When you are trying to locate a deer it makes a big difference if you cna find sign that tells you they were once there. If you know how to read the signs well, you might even get a good idea of how long it has been since the deer was in that location. A friend of mine once said, " Animals don't wear diapers and eat at McDonalds." Deer leave evidence of their presence. Wherever an animal walks, sleeps, feeds, mates, and plays will leave telltale signs. There are may be a strong, heavy track; a matted weedy area that was used as a bed; a thrashed tree used for rubbing the velvet off antlers; cool, moist areas that the animal rolled in; or droppings and traces of urine flow. By analyzing these signs you can accurately predict the type of game, its gender, and its approximate size. All from the signs! The Creator of the universe has also left His mark on our world. Paul reminds us that the signs of God's presence are so numerous that everyone knows something about Him. Everywhere around us He has left evidence of who He is, His power, His creativity, His wisdom, and His love for us. The reality of His presence is revealed to every living thing by the awesome beauty and order of the world in which we live. Can you stand on a mountaintop taking in all the beauty that stretches out before you and honestly say it is all a result of chance? Or does it confirm to your heart and mind that it is the work of God? The apostle Paul reminds us that we have no excuse if we fail to read the signs of God's reality: "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities- His eternal power and divine nature- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse" (Romans 1:20). God has left His fingerprints all over His creation. And the signs of His presence testify to His magnificence. Check out the signs. If you follow them you'll find the ONE worth pursuing with your whole heart. "The heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones." Psalm 89:5 Hope someone gets something out of this, I know I did.....This is going to be something new in the fact that I am going to try to post a devotion everyday.....C YA ALL LATER
christsavedme
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Well I was unable to post yesterday due to a bad day at work, but here is one for today...... "Spiritual Stalking" Read Jonah 2:9 Two of the most common things that my friend Max and I have in common are a love for God and a passion for archery. We have often remarked to one another on the many similarities between being a bowhunter and being a Christian. We can also cite numerous Bible analogies that point to hunting, remembering that God used many great sportsmen to bring honor and glory to Him. There was David, who killed a lion and a bear with a sling, Nimrod, who was a "great hunter before God," Esau, described as a "skillful hunter," and King Solomon, who had scores of hunters bringing in "deer, gazelles, roebuck, and choice fowl." One skill that every hunter must develope is that of stalking. As hunters we must learn to move swiftly and silently, listening intently as we weave our way through the forest. We slip around and creep next to game trails and feeding areas to find our target. We must carefully place each step, as the snap of a twig or the rustle of underbrush might alert our prey that we are nearby. We should show no less concern for how we approach others with the truths of the spiritual life. By listening, absorbing, and discreetly stepping into relationships, we seek out tender hearts. The wise disciple is careful not to "scare away" the nonbeliever with the wrong approach. Instead, we practice spiritual discernment by recognizing the signs of an open heart and the impression of God's leading. Just as a hunter might, we wait for the right occasion to take our shot. Timing is critical. As in bow-hunting, we must wait for the precise moment to make our move. That means listening to God's leading. "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14 I hope that someone is reading these. I haven't seen any post here in awhile. Just thought I would try to start everyones day off on the right track. Press on, Josh

christsavedme
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Well here is one for today. Hope you enjoy. "Why Hunting is Healthy for Humans" Read Psalms 96 Some people think hunting is fun, and it is. But it is more than that. Hunting provides an opportunity to bond with nature in a special, lifegiving way. As you rise early in the morning and make your way in the dark to your tree stand, anticipation fills the air. The owls are making their final pass over the fields, hooting and howling as they discuss your arrival. The chill of the morning mist settles on the back of your neck as rays of light begin to appear on the eastern horizon. Your eyes strain to see any movement as the dull brown and grey tones of the fall become the background of your drama. After a couple of hours of surveying the woods, moving your eyes back and forth, you become aware of everything around you. Any new shape, sound, or movement comes to your attention. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, a deer appears. Deer have a knack for these sudden appearances, as they move so stealthily. When you first spot the deer, your heart begins to race, your eyes begin to bulge, and your palms begin to sweat. You feel every heartbeat in your throat. You are so very alive. That is part of the joy of hunting, but its worth doesn't end there. Steve Chapman has done a masterful job of describing the experience of deer hunting in his book, A Look at Life from a Deer Stand. In the book, Steve points out three things we can gain from participating in this thrilling sport. 1. A harvest of healthy meat. Deer meat is very lean and free from the toxic chemicals that often are present in store bought goods. Venison is such a wonderful food source. Plus, it's easy to justify hunting for venison when beef sells for three dollars a pound. 2. A harvest of mental medicine. The opportunity to relish the peace of nature and to escape the business of our hectic everyday lives is another of the joys of hunting. We have the pleasure of relaxing in the outdoors, which improves our psychological well being in a way that the psychiatrist's couch never could. 3. A harvest of truths. Steve relates,"While it's a fact that each time I go out I learn something new about a hunting tactic or a technical improvement to my equipment, there are greater lessons about life that I 'bagged' that are now mounted on the wall of my heart." The long hours of "think time" hunting provides give us a chance to work through life's priorities and realize what is really important. God most often speaks to me when I am best able to listen. Use your hunting experience as a time to commune with the living God. The spiritual trophies you will bring home will be a blessing to your life. "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God" Psalm 42:1 May God bless each and everyone of you in all you do. Remember to always keep Him in the midst of your mind. christsavedme
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Here is a short one for today. "A Philosophy of Angling" "I Fish, Therefore I Am" In developing these philosophies, I am heavily indebted to those fishermen and philosophers who have inspired me:Patrick McManus, Jimmy Houston, Hank Parker, Al Lindner, and Homer Circle for your encouragement! The worst the fisherman, the better the philosopher. Fishing is always better yesterday. So many flies.....so little time. How much does a fish weigh? Depends on who caught it! You will always catch your biggest fish the day you leave your net and camera at home. The greatest rate of growth for a fish is between the time you catch it and the time you first tell your friends about it. Your tackle box will always open and spill just after you have organized it. Smoked carp taste just as good as smoked salmon when you ain't got no smoked salmon. Two best times to fish are when it's raining and when it's not. I fish, therefore I lie. Anytime a man ain't fishin', he is frittering away his time. I know this really isn't a devotion, but I thought I would try to spread a little humor going into the weekend. Hope you all have a glorious weekend and God bless each and everyone of you. Anybody who fishes knows that patience and perseverance are keys to success. The same holds true about our Christian walk. jaret
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Hey everyone. I've been away for quite a while due to a computer that doesn't want to run right and my grandfather's condition. But anyways here's an update: They've taken my grandfather off of chemotherapy. They say it's not shrinking the cancer at all, all it's doing is just making him weak. They've given him 4 weeks to live. Lately a lot of people have been trying to witness to him. One of his old buddies tried but Grandpa didn't budge at all. My mom has tried, but he hasn't really said anything to her about it. My mom's cousin came over and allowed her to pray for him and help him. But my mom keeps nudging me that I should witness to him. I dunno, I'm kinda nervous about doing it and yet afraid. I could do it to anyone else, but my grandfather I just feel kinda afraid to tell him about Jesus. He's seemed to be real bitter against the church and is one of the those guys from the army who are full of pride and think they don't need Jesus, so I'd be kinda afraid that he'd get mad about it. But yet the other day I came across Ezekiel 3:18 where God says "When I say to the wicked man, 'you shall surely die' and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man will die for his sin and I will hold you accountable for his blood." It really froze me when I read that. I want to witness to him, but then I think 'if they weren't successful in getting him to accept Jesus, what makes me think I can?' But I know that if he doesn't except Jesus as his Lord, I'll be really hurt. So if you guys can, please pray that the Holy Spirit will give me the words to say and give me boldness to do it. Thanks. -J
christsavedme
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Jaret, WOW! Well where do I begin. I know how you feel for I have been in a situation close to this before. Sometimes it feels like there is no way to know what to say and how to say it. I promise you that I will be praying for you over the next couple of days. I know from experience we can't know the plans of the Lord. It is our job to present the time and place, but God will use you to present His word by the Holy Spirit working thru you. I know that sometimes we feel like there is know way that I could say anything that hasn't already been said, but maybe just maybe when he hears it from you it will be different. Maybe God will use you to open up a way that hasn't been there before. God doesn't expect us to know all the answers, but He does expect us to open all the doors. I know that I will never know all the answers, but I will live the rest of my life trying to become more like Christ and on this road to spiritual maturity I know that the devil will do all he can to belittle me nad make me feel like nothing. But once again I know that my Lord and Savior will over come and I will come out clean as snow. Just remember that we are here for you and like I said before, I am praying for you my brother. I hope that out of all this rambling that something has made sense. I like to read Job 1-3 when I feel down and out. It just seems to help me. Keep up the fight and press on, In his grip, JOSH
christsavedme
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Well it has been a little while since I last posted a devotion. Sorry, but I have been really busy. Here is one for now. "Set Your Sights" Read Psalm 27:4 Any marksman will tell you that you'll never hit your target if your aim is off. When you fire a rifle, you don't just point and shoot. You must carefully calculate the distance, hold the rifle very still, and, looking through your sight, focus your attention upon the target. It is similar with archery. You must have a steady aim and site in on the target you want to hit. If you don't keep the target in sight, your bullets and arrows are unlikely to find their mark. They will litter the ground around the target without actually ever hitting it. It is the same for us in our Christian lives. We can expend all kinds of energy, but if we are not sited in on the target, we will always miss our goals. Throughout Scripture we see evidence of people who neglected to set their sights properly. Discouragement, anguish, failure, and defeat were the inevitable results of their improper focus. We will never reach our goals in the Christian life unless we focus on Jesus. The apostle Peter learned this important lesson the hard way. In Matthew 14:22-33, we read the story of how the disciples were crossing the Sea of Galilee when a storm arose suddenly and put their little boat at risk. The wind came up and the boat rocked up and down on the furious waves. It was then that they caught sight of a ghostly personage walking to them across the water. Now Peter was a fisherman, so he knew that this water was deep and that it would not support the weight of a human body. After all, he had fished on this lake many times before. Then it dawned on him who this "ghost" was. It was Jesus Himself. "Take courage!" Jesus said, "It is I. Don't be afraid." Now Peter, like most of us, could be a pretty impulsive guy. He was so impressed with the miracle that he blurted out, "Lord, if it is you, tell me to come to you on the water." Jesus simply answered,"Come." Fixing his sights upon the Lord, Peter stepped over the side of the boat and began to walk toward Jesus. But then he realized what he was doing and became frightened. As he began to take his eyes off of Jesus, Peter began to lose his footing. "When he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, 'Lord, save me!" (Matthew 14:30). Peter is a perfect example of how we often act during times of crisis. When we take our gaze off the Lord, we will sink just as Peter did. But as long as we keep our attention on the Lord Jesus Christ, He will sustain us and help us through troubled times. To mature in our faith, we must stay focused on Him. He should be the target toward which our heart is aimed. What difficulty are you experiencin? Are you keeping your focus centered on God's promises? For God is faithful, and He will not forsake you. He promises to help you through all the rough seas of life. But you must keep your sights upon Him. "Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you." Proverbs 4:25 Hope that this helps someone that reads it. I know that I get alot out of it everytime I sit down and type one. I thought this was a very touching subject. Us as hunters know that setting our sights is a valuble aspect of hunting. Guess we all better be practicing our aim at times other than the range. God bless each and everyone of you and have a wonderful July 4th. Press on, Josh

TreeWalker
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Thanks for all of the encouraging posts Josh... Now I'm going to spin this in a different direction....... Who of you has a God given gift.....and uses it:)...or doesn't ?? We all know Buckee has a beautiful knack for art...................I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that I have some pretty good artistic skills also, but hardly ever use them. The other day, I messed around with the girls' play-do and made several figures.......a bust of an old man wearing a derby hat, and the other of a charging bull. I'm good with a pencil....love doing black/white landscapes..wildlife images...etc....I also have been known to carry a pretty good tune, but simply reserve myself for singing with the congregation........I can't seem to bring myself to sing in front of others, like in choir I know we are supposed to showcase or gifts and let them give praise to God...............so why is it so hard to overcome the fears of trying ?? buckee
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies I'm the same way with my art Clay. The folks at Realtree here were the first ones, (besides friends and family) to ever see my art. I haven't done anything in a few years now. I wish I had the time, when I'm in the mood, and in the mood, when I have the time. I guess one of my gifts also is doing the best I can, and going the extra mile, at whatever I do. Sometimes it can be a downfall, when it comes to being too fussy, but my customers like it. Some people call it perfectionism, I prefer to call it integrity
christsavedme
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Well lets see, I have a great gift. I am very much a people person. I never meet a stranger, that is why I love my job. Being a paramedic I get to meet many new people and most are in a time of their life where they need a friend. At the same time I have a lot of the same problems that you have mentioned here. I always had a problem sharing my faith with others. I could talk about anything, but when it came to talking about my faith....well lets just say I closed off the world. Then I started reading a book, 40 Days of Purpose. That book is amazing. Since then I have gotten over alot of the fears that were holding me down, now I express my love for Christ to anyone willing to give me a couple of minutes. I am also starting a new ministry in our church. My wife and I are members of a large church. I figured out that there was something missing there. We didn't have an Outdoor Ministry. I mean they had the occasional Wild Game Dinner but that was the end of it. That is when I found the Tennessee Outdoor Network and got to know Jason Cruise. He is the founder of this group and they help churches across the states start up Outdoor Ministries that work. This is my new passion. Since I was a boy I have loved the outdoors and feel closer to God while in the woods than any other time. There is just a peace that comes to me when I am alone with Him and His wonderful creation. So I want to share that with others, so they can come to know the same loving Father that I have. I guess through all this rambling what I am trying to say is that I know how hard it is to open up to others. But that is something that if you turn over to God and just let the Holy Spirit work through you gets easier and easier. I know that I am still lacking in alot of places in my life, but the goal of my life is to be more Christ Like. This is what the Father has called me to do, so the rest of my life is devoted to becoming more mature in Him. I will never know it all and will always be learning. At the same time I will always be failing, but by His grace and mercy I am saved and can fail eternally no more. I urge everyone to press on in His mercy and by His grace and take each day as it is our last. We will never know the true peace in life until we meet Him face to face. Eternity starts today, don't waste it. In His Grip, Josh
preacherman
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Don't laugh out loud, with me being a preacher and everything, but my gift would be in communication skills. I do preach, but I also sing. And yes, I do use my talent as much as possible. I travel when time and scheduling allows. I would give anything to go to a studio and do a recording, but the funds just aren't there. Who knows, one day the Lord may just open the door! christsavedme
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Well I haven't done a devotion in awhile so I thought I would send one in for all to read. "Sticky Trigger Finger" Read Matthew 28 One of the outdoorsmen I most admire is Gerry Cauillouet, host of God’s Great Outdoors. Gerry is a gifted communicator and woodsman who has, through the years, been a great encouragement to many Christian sportsmen. Gerry is a man who pays attention to the lessons he learns from his favorite sport, hunting. Some years ago, Gerry was shotgun-hunting an old logging road cut alongside a ridge in the hills of southeast Ohio. This was an area he had hunted many times, so he knew it like the back of his hand. The day was perfect for still-hunting. The leaves were wet, the sky was overcast with the occasional light flurry of snow, and there were deer signs all around him. He figured that this would be his day to take a nice trophy buck. About midday Gerry was halfway up the road when a nice eight point buck descended from the ridge top, heading toward an old scrape area where the road and the ridge met. “The buck stopped just before dropping onto the flat,” Gerry reports. “ I prepared to shoot just as soon as he came into my shotgun range.” But when the buck moved into range, Gerry didn’t pull the trigger. “It wasn’t buck fever or a sudden feeling of guilt,” he remembers. “ I really can’t explain why I didn’t drop the animal when I had the chance.” Shifting position to close the gap even more, Gerry slowly approached the deer by quietly crossing a small depression. This time the buck turned broadside and presented the perfect shot. Gerry raised his gun to fire, but again he hesitated. The wind began to swirl and the buck winded him. Gerry was spotted. “Emotion rushed upon me and screamed Shoot!” He says, “ but I still could not pull the trigger.” The animal spun and headed across the overgrown logging trail as Gerry placed his sights on the chest of the runaway critter. He finally squeezed off a shot: BOOM! Unfortunately, the buck ran behind a poplar tree. The deer escaped unscathed. He has often analyzed his unfortunate choices that day. “ I kicked myself many times for blowing the opportunity,” Gerry admits. “I often think how many times I could have taken that deer. I will probably never have another chance to take a trophy animal that close again.” Don’t we all have a tendency to hesitate in the face of our opportunities? How many missed chances can you point to in your life? Opportunities to build a relationship, assist a disabled person, or encourage a child? What about the last time you could have shared your faith but didn’t? We must take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves. We should be bold to love others, to share the gospel with unbelievers, to reach out to someone in need. Next time you are in a situation where you can act for God, don’t freeze up while you wait for another chance or a better opportunity. Pull the trigger on it! "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses.....to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8 Hope that someone gets as much out of this one as I have. As I sat in church yesterday and listened to our guest speaker, God spoke to me. The speaker was speaking on the Sermon at Athens. Paul was an amazing preacher and was not afraid of sharing his faith with any who didn't believe. Today many of us are "spiritual wimps!" It is time for us to take a stand and show the world that we are not afraid to speak and share the faith that worships one true God. Jesus Christ is THE MAN, The one and only! Press on my brothers and sisters, IN HIS GRIP, Josh
preacherman
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Here is one for everyone to think about. Went to a revival service Monday night and the preacher made a statement that has really challenged me, let me know what you think. He said, "In Luke 24, we find the story of the two men who were on the road to Emmaus after the resurrection of Jesus. Jesus came and met with them and as he left, they said, "did our hearts not burn within us as he walked with us along the way!" He was speaking about souls and the condition of souls. He said, "How long has it been since your hearts was really burdened and burning for lost souls to get saved?" I know that is simple, but it really plowed my field. Because truth be known, we are all guilty of just going through the motions sometimes, instead of really being serious about what Jesus has called us to do! TreeWalker
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Welcome Summer1, it's great to have you in the forums..... I have something to confess of sorts, but I guess there was a reason for it........let me explain..... I work on a crew of five, power plant operations, rotating 12 hour shifts.....now when on nights, the guys like to watch some TV, and of course some of it ain't worth watching........example, Howard Stern..... Except this one night last week, it was a like a train wreck.....I had to stop for a second and watch. And what caught my attention was that they had Alec Baldwin on....you know, the actor. Now Alec Baldwin was notorious for his partying and ladies-man skills.............but the night he was on HS, he was witnessing about his re-birth.......he was Born Again, On Fire for Jesus !!! I couldn't beleive it..........and of course the HS crew were trying to trip him up with vulgar acts and lewd comments, etc.......but Alec held fast, was very impressive.....I was proud of him........... Howard Stern even went so far as to set up a room with a near-naked lady into it, and then tricked Alec into walking in to see what he would do.....this was all before the show........they then played it back while interviewing him........as it showed, Alec walked into the room and quickly spun and walked right back out as if nothing had just happened....... It was refreshing to see.........I don't patronize filth like Howard Stern.....but this once I did, and I am actually glad I did.....even though i couldn't stand watching the whole show, i saw what I needed........a man that had been to the bottom.....a famous man.....and he had found his way back to God... christsavedme
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Welcome Summer. Iminrut, great story you shared. I know what you mean a about late night tv being smut. Working in a firehouse is probably the greatest job in the world as far as I am concerned, but it has its disadvantages. Usually late night means the guys sitting around the day room with the tv turned to some lewd channel. I usually am already in bed, but if not I am there soon after they decide it is that time. I am glad to hear that someone is comfortable enough in their faith to take it public, esp. on the Howard Stern show. That guy is a joke. I keep waiting on him to reveal his "mark of the beast."LOL Thanks for sharing and God bless you all today and everyday here after. May His grace shine upon you in all you do! buckee
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Just thought I'd share this with you folks The ABC's Whoever came up with this one must have had some Divine guidance! Although things are not perfect Because of trial or pain Continue in thanksgiving Do not begin to blame Even when the times are hard Fierce winds are bound to blow God is forever able Hold on to what you know Imagine life without His love Joy would cease to be Keep thanking Him for all the things Love imparts to thee Move out of "Camp Complaining" No weapon that is known On earth can yield the power Praise can do alone Quit looking at the future Redeem the time at hand Start every day with worship To "thank" is a command Until we see Him coming Victorious in the sky We'll run the race with gratitude Xalting God most high Yes, there'll be good times and yes some will be bad, but... Zion waits in glory...where none are ever sad! "I AM Too blessed to be stressed!" The shortest distance between a problem and a solution is the distance between your knees and the floor. The one who kneels to the Lord can stand up to anything. Love and peace be with you forever, Amen.
