Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies

Just thought I would share a couple of quotes from one of my outdoor devotionals.

"The archer hunts not for meat, not for the trophy, but for sheer, pure joy of matching wits and endurance with that clever animal." Lawrence R. Koller

"Every fishing water has its secrets. A river or a lake is not a dead thing. It has beauty and wisdom and content. And to yield up these mysteries, it must be fished with more than hooks." Zane Grey

"Experience is indeed the best teacher. Such is deer hunting. Everytime I walk into the woods, I learn something new." Steve Chapman

"The most important thing for hunting is not whether a new world record whitetail is killed. It's planting the seed so future generations can experience the greatest outdoor experience there is: hunting whitetailed deer on crisp autumn mornings." Charles J. Alsheimer

"Fishing is the chance to wash one's soul with pure air, with the rush of a brook or with the shimmer of the sun on the blue water." Herbert Hoover

"God never did make a more calm, quiet, innocent recreation than angling." Izaak Walton

"While it's a fact that each time I go out I learn something new about a hunting tactic or a technical improvement to my equipment, there are greater lessons about life that I have 'bagged' that are now mounted on the wall of my heart." Steve Chapman

"My advice to the young is: Learn the art of hunting if you desire to grow up to be good men, good in everything which is perfect in thought, word, and deed. The first efforts of a youth emerging from boyhood should be directed to the chase. If you succeed in that, all else will seem easy to you." Xenophon

"I have never been happier, more exhilarated, at peace, rested, inspired, and aware of the grandeur of the universe and the greatness of God than when I find myself in a natural setting not much changed from the way He made it." Jimmy Carter

"Anybody who fishes knows that patience and perseverance are keys to success. The same holds true about our Christian walk." Al Linder

"It is the strict circumscription of hunting and fishing- those unwritten rules of ethics, etiquette, and propriety- that define the challenge." Jimmy Carter

Just thought I would share these with you all. May God continually bless you in all you do and may His grace shine upon you.

"May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance." 2 Thessalonians 3:5

Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies

I just wanted to say Thank YOU to everyone in here! I had been going to church every sunday with my parents, but lately I seem to make excuses to get out of going to church. After reading all of the great things everyone has said It has made me relize that the most important thing in life is to trust in the lord and he will guide you through all the good times and in bad times. Thank you all so much!

You don't have to thank me for anything, just glad to know that people are getting something out of what I have to say. You could never know what that means to me. Look forward to hearing more about you. Continue your walk with the Lord in all you do and you will have a peace like none you have ever known before. laugh.gif

Ozarkgal,

Congratulations on finding out early what so many people miss out on. We have folks in my church who will attempt to find every excuse to stay out of church, when they know deep down inside they should be there. Keep your nose in the book and your knees on the floor and you will do fine!

Be Blessed,

Scott

Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies

Here's one for you to think about......unless something changes this is going to be my sermon for Sunday..............I love watching the crocodile hunter on Animal planet.........a few years ago, I was watching a documentary on his life.........he was 21 years old when he got bit for the first time by a croc.........but the next statement is what hit me like a brick.........he said, "It was not her fault, it was mine........and the reason being is because I got so comfortable and complacent concerning my work that I let down my guard for one moment and got bit" You know, the devil is just like that.........and that is why that we need to be careful to "safeguard" our Christian life, not only when we are in the valley, but also when we are on the mountaintop. Don't wait until tough times come to find the Lord......prepare yourself now and then things will be better when hard times follow you!

Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies

I am in a little town called Greenwood Springs, right outside of Amory, about 45 minutes south of Tupelo and a little under 2 hours away from you. I have been to Southaven many times. Matter of fact, I have even preached in a church called "Cross Creek FWB" there in Southaven. You know where that is?

I know where Greenwood Springs is....I grew up in Fulton. Lived there and Tremont up until I got married in 2002 and moved up here. Not sure on the church in Southaven, I am new to this area. Just joined that fire service about 8 months ago. Still learning the area.

You living right outside of Amory, you must know where the Pickle Barrel is.....Man that used to be the place to go and eat....MMMMMM.....makes me hungry just thinking about it! grin.gif

Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies

I thought I would post a verse that has encouraged me during this difficult time at my place of employee (recent merger and elimination of many jobs with more to come).

Jeremiah 32:27 - I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?

This brings to mind a recent thought I had that I approached my pastor with.........

Is it not true that we can become so comfortable in our faith, that we can trust the Lord so much that it can become a test at times ??

Thinking as to how we are not to test the Lord, is what brought this to mind.......I think we can become over-confident, or take the Lord for granted.....trusting him to do some of our work, even our righteous work, for us ??!!

What are your thoughts...... crazy.gif I know that I am guilty (at least feel guilty) of this at times.....

I hope you know where I'm going with this.......We know God is all things to all people.....We know that we are not to worry ourselves, but to lay our burdens at his feet.........But what about those things, that are of our responsibility ?? Our Christian responsibilities......don't we sometimes lay those at his feet as well ??

Just some of those ramblings that roll around in my head, while I sit out in the woods while scouting or hunting....... smirk.gif

Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies

Hey guys, I'm finally back on after a 2 month absence getting my computer fixed! Things have been kinda here and there. So I'll update:

Most of you guys know my grandfather was battling pancreatic cancer and was told that he wouldn't live long. Well guys my Grandfather accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior on July 7th!!! My mom led her dad in prayer and accepted Jesus as his savior even told his brother and his brother's pastor that he gotten saved.

But sadly, 13 days later my grandfather lost his battle with cancer. It was kinda hard on us, but me and my mom knew we'd see Grandpa again. He's no longer in any pain and is reunited with his mother. But best of all, he's face to face with Jesus.

But I'm defintely grateful that I had a grandfather like him. He was the one that introduced me to hunting and took me to the hunter education courses so I could go hunting. But I'll always treasure the moments I got to spend with him hunting. I wish I could've gotten a deer with him, but I'm sure I'll have a bunch of hunting stories to tell him about in heaven. grin.gif

But anyways guys just thought I'd give you an update and say I'm back once again!

A verse that has really been on my heart the past 2 weeks is Proverbs 16:3 "Commit your works to the Lord And your plans will be established."

Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies

Well Jaret what can I say. Losing family is always hard, but sometimes we must face the reality of this life. It is a very comforting thought to know that you will see your grandfather again one day, and oh what a joy it will be.

I was in church service a couple of weeks ago and our pastor was doing a sermon on "Living Life Between Two Trees". He made a statement that means alot to me. Eternity doesn't start when you die.....Eternity starts today. It started the day you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. That made me realize that what I do everyday matters. One of my favorite quotes is, "The measure of a man's character is not what he gets from his ancestors, but what he leaves his descendants." You and your family will be in our prayers. Peace be with you my brother. May God bless you and keep you and His grace shine upon you!

Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies

On another note.......our churches youth center........name The Zone, had it's official grand openeing last night !!!!

We had a Christian band from UND, called Crimson play for the area youth....with door prizes and food galore. Realize, we live in a town of about 900 people......our high school enrollment is around 120 kids....but we packed the "Zone" with 75 kids, and there were many more outside.......it was awesome.

There's still lot's of little odd jobs that need to be done, trim work, some more painting, etc...but it was good to see all of our hard work serve a purpose.......and we've got more kids interested in coming to our Christian youth meetings and conventions as well.....it was an exciting night !! smile.gif Glory be to God...

Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies

Thanks man....I have been meaning to do that, but was gone last week on vacation. I am going to try to get back to post devotions as much as possible. I miss doing that. Sometimes it is just hard to find enough time in the day to do all the honey-do's and all the things I have to get done. I can promise you though ya'll can expect some more to come! Hope you all get as much out of reading them as I do in posting them. Just enjoy spreading the love! grin.gif

Thanks for that verse Jaret.

I'm up at 1AM working (again) -- hot project. It's still hard to work hours like this.

Anyway - what a wonderful Scripture.

Proverbs 16:3 "Commit your works to the Lord And your plans will be established."

Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies

Blessings............a child

And with our 4th on the way (3 girls so far), we found out from yesterdays ultra-sound that it is a boy laugh.gif........what a joy, it's gonna be like having that first child all over again.......we were so used to having girls, LOL.....it's gonna be a blast.

Last night, we went to the Family Fire.......it's a big gathering at a large civic center, with a worship band covering top hits, and then a key note speaker.....some comedy and good fellowship....and a lot of young kids devoting their lives to Christ for the first time....it was amazing.

The speaker was Steven Baldwin, and does he have a testimony that will open your eyes. He did a fantastic job...........

He is also the producer of a Skater/BMX video of all Christian x-treme athletes......an outreach that will appeal to todays kids, and has been a unbelievable testiment to God and his works in peoples lives........there goal is to take it on the road, hitting cities all around the nation, puting on Skating/Biking exhibitions for the youth and preach the gospel............

If you want to check it out, there is a website.....

LIVIN' IT

The DVD is meant as a hand out (yes it still costs some money).....the radical footage is saved for the main body, and the testimonials and gospel are saved for the bonus footage section.....I think it was a great idea to not force feed it down kids throats, but to maybe peak there interest......it can also allow those kids to check it out later when by themselves, if the may be embarrassed in front of friends, etc.........and I checked out the whole video, it is awesome stuff...........it's amazing what these kids are capable of !! smile.gif

Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies

Wow, the more I browse this site, the more content I find that makes me proud to be a member. There are not many sites around where you will find people with the courage to openly talk about their faith.

Buckee, your witness moved me. I don't have anything like it. I grew up in a Christian home, although it was one of those homes that professes to be Christian but has a long way to go. The church we attended has as many or more "man-made" rules and doctrines than "God-made" rules. I fell away from church and thought that I lived my life right and that was enough. I now know it isn't.

When dating my wife I asked her about her collection of "Left Behind" books. I started reading them and couldn't put them down. The series literally "scared the heck" out of me. It was a combination of those books and my wife that saved me. We've now been married going on 2 years and will have a son next Tuesday if not before. She has 2 daughters from a previous marriage but little Hunter James will be my first child.

We attend a very small church that does not claim any certain religion other than Christianity, all the sermons are simply based on the bible. The pastor gives some very powerful sermons at that. I was also a pilgrim on a Walk to Emmaus weekend last October. For those that have not heard of it, it is a 3 day 'retreat' that will give you a taste of God's love, and give you the tools to become a more effective member of your church and a more effective disciple for Christ. I was a team member for a Walk to Emmaus last weekend and was blessed once again. Our God is an awesome God.

My favorite verse of Scripture is the theme verse from my pilgrim weekend....Philippians 4:13:

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

The theme song for that weekend was "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me. I can't listen to that song without feeling closer to our Creator.

As far as I'm concerned, my signature says it all. It's an honor to be part of this great forum.
