jci63
Shot the last day of Muzzleloader, Dec 19th, 2004 Emmet County, Michigan Piebald are legal in Michigan, and have brown. I took the deer to the local DNR station and they confirmed. Getting bashed by some locals, for shooting the deer. Getting way out of hand! DSGB
Re: 2004 Michigan Piebald Deer Welcome to the Realtree forums! That's an awesome deer! Congratulations! It looks almost like an albino, but seeing the pictures with the brown head and tarsal glands, it can't be an albino. That's probably the most white I've seen on a piebald. I don't know why people get mad about shooting albino/piebald deer. It isn't some sort of magical deer. I, personally, would want the genes out of the herd. Why would you want a bunch of white deer? Are you getting it mounted? Full body mount? Rug? Once again, congratulations on a deer of a lifetime!

Norm Sauceman
Re: 2004 Michigan Piebald Deer I just wish there would have been some better photos shot of the deer...kind of more respectful of the deer..Don't get me wrong, that is an AWESOME deer!!! I just like pictures that show the deer better and not "hung" or splayed out of the back of a truck... I would have loved to see more of the deer.. Like I said, that is an AWESOME deer!! I just wish I could have seen more of it.
jci63
Re: 2004 Michigan Piebald Deer Thanks, these things happen so fast, I guess I didn't think about that at the time. Norm Sauceman
Re: 2004 Michigan Piebald Deer I'm glad you understood. I was not bashing your deer at all.. I wish I could get a trophy like that. Are you doing a full-body, front half, front third or just a shoulder mount
jci63
Re: 2004 Michigan Piebald Deer Full body mount. I found a picture of this one at a local Walmart Store. I called the guy who mounted it, and he said "the deer was raised at a deer farm and had tb, DNR put it down" he purchased the deer and mounted it. It was a nine point! fisherguy
Re: 2004 Michigan Piebald Deer yup, i gotta say he got lucky...the tarsal glands are dark from teh nasty urine, and the forehead is from teh rubs...once the hide is tanned that colour will come out. Either way beautiful deer taken by a very lucky hunter, and it is silly to make albinos protected game. If he could see its eyes weren't red it is not an albino. Why then does i t have to have clearly visible brown hairs?

fisherguy
Re: 2004 Michigan Piebald Deer SOrry jci63 let me clarify my post. YOu shot a beautiful and legal deer that did have brown fur on it. I meant that the colour particularly on the tarsalglands comes form glands and urine. It is still brown hair and legal. My basic point is that the law is dumb to protect albinos, and even more so to say that being able to tell a deer has brown eyes and is therefore not an albino does not allow you to shoot it unless it also has brown hair. Congrats on a great deer and a large taxidermy bill lol.
jci63
Re: 2004 Michigan Piebald Deer $2200.00 but its worth every penny, to get this awesome deer mounted. I don't think I will ever get another! In my area they have a 10 point, doe, button buck. All with variations of white. Some are upset, but most think it's awesome! craig mack
Re: 2004 Michigan Piebald Deer I've seen a picture of this deer in the local auto parts store in Indian River (my parents live there) And it is a very nice deer. Ive seen a piebald doe in the area about 4 years ago. I've read some of the things people have been writing in the local paper and I do not agree with them. You shot it legally so there should'nt be an issue. P.S. your buddy also shot a nice deer up in Canada you should post the pic for these guys to see. I totally agree with you on your choice of mounts....once in a lifetime for sure. some people have their own ideas about theway other people should hunt or what they should hunt dont they. You really cant blame them though...they suffer from a medical condition called: Cranial Rectosis
