Pop-Up Camping....

Re: Pop-Up Camping....

It is definitely on our list of things to buy. We camp all summer and on different vacations (such as out last trip to Yellowstone) it would have been VERY handy. We camped every-night because the park has very few accommodations other than camping. After putting the tent up several times after dark we decided it was on our "Must Have" list.

Re: Pop-Up Camping....

Yeah we looked at some at the Tulsa State Fair last fall. This RV dealer around here sales a nice one CHEAP. They only sale one model. Their whole intent is to get you to buy one of those and then eventually come back for a full size RV. We walked around in it and liked it but wanted to wait to commit. The guy offered one to us for $4,800 if we would sign the paper saying we would come to the store to look at them (so they could push their sales pitch further on the big models). He knew that we were only interested in the pop up but it was his job. We ALMOST bought the thing and decided to wait.

They sale more of this brand and model than anyone in the nation. It even had hot water and an outside grill that hooked up to the propane tanks in the unit. It had a water hook up as well as a bladder. It was really sharp. He said the trade in value is pretty amazing and he even made me some guarantees. We're still wanting one but need to wait until this whole house thing is done......

Re: Pop-Up Camping....

Well my wife and I came into a little money last year, so we decieded to buy a camper with some of it. We found a 1994 pop-up camper for $2500. It has A/C whcih was a big plus. I am looking forward to using it a ton this summer.

You can find some really nice used ones that are less than $3000. We got lucky to find one with A/C for less than that.

Re: Pop-Up Camping....

We used to have one and I thought it was great. It had a furnace, fridge and an outside shower. The wife, who is paranoid when it comes to bears, wanted a hardside camper to keep the grizzlies out, so we sold the pop-up and bought a 24' travel trailer. It is pretty nice, but if a bear wanted in I am sure it would still drop by for lunch. At least the wife is happy and is more willing to go camping, if you can even call it that.

Re: Pop-Up Camping....

I am with Black eye susan, well not literally chill out Summer!!!

We would love to get one but the tent will have to do for now. I think we would go more then once per year if we had one. Heck I am sure of it....

Almost got a brand new one for $100 once. My wifes co-worker won a new pop-up camper from a VT scratch ticket and almost sold it to me for $100. He waited and got like $2000 for it. I guess it was a $6000 camper.

That would of been the sweetest deal ever!

Re: Pop-Up Camping....

Bought it new in 2002 for $6700? I thought the rule for pop-ups was it was supposed to beat least 20 years old and cost no more than $250. At least everyone I know who has one has followed that rule. All it takes is another $600, a few cans of rustoleum, a few sheets of plywood and some well placed Great Stuff. Good as new.

I wonder if they would keep you warm in the cold months of deer season?

Too_ , before my Dad built his camp back in 86', that is what 6 of us stayed in during the first couple of weeks of deer season in Nov. ------ a pop-up camper.

it wasn't as much comfort back then but a whole lot of fun, and it wasn't to bad with a propane furance in it.

Re: Pop-Up Camping....

we bought a pop-up in '01, we use it for at least a week every summer, 2 years ago my wife took it to Galveston. We absolutely love it. And yes, you don't even know it is back there.

Too- I have used mine on a couple of deer hunts, all I use for heat is the propane stove, it will keep it "comfortable" on the inside, I crack the windows to get some fresh air, so not to get carbon monoxide poisoning. I think we paid like $5200 for ours, with A/C.

Jeramie, man, you gotta get one if you do alot of camping, I won't spend the night in a tent ever again!! It takes only about 30 mins to set one up to!!

I built a hitch onto our SEA-Doo trailer, so as to pull the camper behind it!

Re: Pop-Up Camping....

We literally spend all summer on lake Hudson. There is a camp ground out there and they know us by name.....my entire family. They reserve a spot for us as soon as it gets warm until it gets cold again. I guess thats enough camping to justify one!

We set up and ski all day, catfish all night, and eat like there's no tomorrow! Its a blast. Occasionally we go to other lakes such as Gibson but mainly just hover around Hudson (its only about 5 minutes from the house).
