Missed160
I was out saturday, sighting in a new scope on my A bolt .270 - I tried a couple different types of ammo. I had hoped to shoot Federal Fusion 150 gr in Canada this year. After getting really good groups with Fusion 130 gr 2" high at 100 yards, I tried the 150. 4.5" low - Groups not near as tight. I was pretty shocked at the difference between these two.. The other type I had were sme Hornaday 140 grain, these shoot pretty much the same as the Fusion 130's, great groups. I have decided I am going to use these this year for whitetails.
wtnhunt
Kind of interesting how much groups can vary, sure someone here can tell you how the barrel length and rate of twist will factor in for those specific bullets. My Remington model 700 in .270 shoots great groups with the cheap 150 grain corelokts, however drop to the 130 grain core lokts or winchester power point plus and they open up a bit. doubleA
When it comes down to it, the barrel is going to decide on what it likes and dislikes. Some barrels will shoot a varietyof weights or brands into the same POI and group while some wont. The most drastic change I have had was about 15 years ago with a 7mm STW. I had a great shooting load using a 140 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip behind a charge of R22, ok with the exact same recipe other that a Nosler 140gr Partition , that load would print 3 inches higher and 2 inches left of the Ballistic Tip load. It goes to show you when you change anything it does affect barrel harmonics in a way that it can help or hurt.
OJR
Try some Hornady, 130 grain, Interbonds! I have used them on both deer and elk in my 270 and they work great! Good groups and the critters drop right now!
Jeramie
Different Rifles like to eat different things! I had a Remington 700 that would only eat the 180grn corelokt. Anything lighter and it was all over the place! To date I have a Ruger in .243 that will only shoot super-x with tight groups. Everything else seems to be lacking. Or at least everything ive tried so far.
