slugshooter
I actually heard that today for the first time in regards to getting turned down for a job. Essentially, getting my BS degree has made it harder for me to find a job. That's neither here nor there, but I have a wife and three step-children to help support and I need a job. Essentially Kari and I are homeless right now living at her parents house until our other rental house opens up...whenever that is. Life is sure being good to me right now. buckee
yep, it's called being over-qualified. It scares employers. Thank God, I'm not over-qualified for anything ...LOL
OJR
I've had that happen to me and when it did, I just went on my own and forgot about updating resumes and listening to those people! Good luck with finding a job!

Tominator
"Overqualified" = "I'm afraid you'll have my job in 3 years." Hang in there bud, something will turn up.

preacherman
"Overqualified" = "I'm afraid you'll have my job in 3 years." Hang in there bud, something will turn up. Or I am afraid you will take my job and then leave it in 6 months when something better opens up. My wife graduated with an accounting degree and for the first three years after college, she has heard that statement over and over and over and over. Texan_Til_I_Die
Or I am afraid you will take my job and then leave it in 6 months when something better opens up.... That's exactly the situation I'm facing now. I'm trying to hire an IT Technician and out of the 35 or so applicants, I would say that around 50% are "over qualified." By that I mean that, unless they're embellishing their resumes, they should either already have, or be looking for positions that pay considerably more than this one does. And, like it or not, as an employer I do need to consider whether or not an applicant is likely to be a long term employee.

slugshooter
Just dont tell them you have the BS until after they hire you ... you'd be well on your way to taking there jobs by then lol Steve Trust me, I've thought about leaving that part out on applications, just to see what happens. Couldn't they fire me after the fact if they found out I had a BS because I wasn't honest on the application?
wildthing
I am a headhunter in Pittsburgh for IT professionals. I have been recruiting for about 5 years now. Believe me when I say that your BS degree will be needed. Overqualifed means really that the employer sensed something about you in person or on paper that makes them feel like you are a flight risk and not currently worth the time and investment. Take my 2 cents for what it is worth... Good luck to you thought...the right job will present itself! Keep you head up, keep applying, improve your interview skills, sell yourself as a viable candidate.
