Guest seets
I plan to rebuild an old ww2 or pre-ww2 rifle(along with the help of my grandfather and local gunsmith), im having trouble deciding what would be among the most practical build. as far as money goes, my limit for rifle + parts is at 2G's right now and thats pushing it..... so please help give me some information involving prices, history, rarity, etc. about the following: Lee Enfield Lee Navy M1 Garand BAR M-14( i know its post ww2 but i don't care...) Kar 98k M1903 Springfield Svt-40 Gewehr 43 and PLEASE dont write stuff that you dont genuinely know!!! thanks, Kevin Seets
WaCoyote
Save your 2 g's and invest it. You'll have enough by the time your fifty to build them all. How come the M2 isn't on the list? That'd be my choice.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Out of that list, I'd choose the M14 for functionality or the M1903 Springfield for sentimentality. Make sure you have the appropriate licensing if you're building something that's selective fire or full auto like the BAR.
bluelund79
I'm partial to the Enfield, only because my first deer rifle was my dads Wichester 1917. That is the one that I have just retired so I can basically do the same thing you are doing, rebuild just so I can give it back to my dad better that he gave it to me. Overall nostalgia, I'd go with the 1903 Sringfield....I also have an 8mm Mauser that is on the blocks to get done up down the road. Good luck... AJ
Well, the M-14 is out unless you have a class-III license. It is selective to full auto, so its definately out of your price range. You can do a civilian version which is the M1A, you can still get them new from Springfield. The M1918 BAR is also fully auto, so that excludes it also. The 1903 Springfield can be done fairly easily as can the 98 Mauser and the Enfields. The M1 Garand can be found easily enough and can be done in your price range. The SVT-40 is available and a quick search of gunbroker shows them going for almost $1000. Not necessarily because they are a great rifle, but harder to get. Pretty much the same with the Gewehr 43. As to info on each gun, the internet is your friend. Check out Wikipedia. It lists a lot of info.

wyohunter
i have a spot in my heart for the mauser 1909 argentine...i have my 300 win mag made from one...
Modillo
personally i would either go with the M-1A Garand, i have a soft spot in my hart for one, and or the 1903a1, the Garand can be found all most every where i have been, and for a relative fair price, the M-1 30 carbine's are all so nice, find one thats strictly semi-auto, and shells are easy to find as well with the 30.06 and they are fun,tho in my experience they are harder to find than the 1903 or the m-1,but i also like the Mauser k-98, my grandpa found one when he was younger and redid everything and he loves it to this very day, but in my opinion i would have to say the old tried and trues 1. M-1 Garand; simply because with out it we may have lost the war's (wwII, and Korea) the Japanese feared them and the Germans hated them. 2. 1903 A-1 Springfield; its the American answer to the 8mm Mauser ballisticly, and they are just too nice to pass up and to have a piece of history is just awsome. okiedog
the M-1 30 carbine's are all so nice I own two M-1 30 carbines. One is made by Underwood (Underwood typwritter) and the other is a Winchester. I would not take anything for those 2 guns:).
