aksheephuntress
...and what was wierd, was that he fought it with a 40-lb Salmon line!...he was very fortunate... -Thank you, Tominator, for posting the picture of it!- I wasn't quite sure how to do that... Leo
...and what was weird, was that he fought it with a 40-lb Salmon line!...he was very fortunate... No joke! All that fish had to do was sulk on the bottom and it was game over. The guy who handled the gaff is to be commended. You get ONLY one chance to boat a fish like that and that's it. Obviously, he did his part. Hope the lucky angler shares some of his winnings with him. That fish may indeed be big money.
RangerClay
That is a great story! "fish was so large, Gonsalves shot it with a shotgun, Schmahl gaffed it and Brian Erickson harpooned it." LOL! Only in Alaska!
stevebeilgard
That is a great story! "fish was so large, Gonsalves shot it with a shotgun, Schmahl gaffed it and Brian Erickson harpooned it." LOL! Only in Alaska! i shoot any halibut over 40 pounds. they are 85% meat, and can break your leg in one whack. then the gaff. over 100 pounds gets the harpoon. pretty much standard proceedure. for eating, it's less than 40 pounds, with 25 being my optimized size.
