mcgyverit
Forgive my ignorance on the subject of shot shells, but a buddy and me were out shooting some clays this past weekend. We started off shooting shotshells with brass ends with no issues. After they were gone I opened a new box of shells with a more metallic looking end, maybe tinned or zinc plated. These shells would not eject from his gun (older Ithaca pump). I shoot a Mossberg 500 and at first there was no issue, but after about 10-15 rounds they started hanging up in mine as well, does anyone have a thought as to why these types of shells would not work as well as the brass shot shells? We were thinking maybe it was a heat issue, but the only way to get the spent shell out was to loosen the barrel a little and then it would eject. You can imagine how much of a pain that became. Thanks for any input.
terry264
Sounds like you just got introduced to the new type hulls from Winchester. Box is probably marked "Universal" if I remember correctly. This is their new "HS" hull supposedly meaning high strength, but I personally feel it stands for something else, lol. Also about 40% of the empties will have split crimp folds after their first firing. They also do not reload well at all. Stick with rem. or federal for your bulk buys for shooting claybirds and you will be okay.
