huntinguide
It might be a little late but i think our weather is fine, lots of rain. Heres my situation, ive got 160 acres just out side town. A major creek runs right through it with minimal hunting pressure, also lots of residential around. Im preping my plot about 1.5 acres in the creek bottom surrounded by oaks. What would be a good all around summer blend for nutrients and holding deer in the area, there are lots of deer. Ive planted lots of fall plots and hunt lots of bean and wheat fields but am new to summer plots.
wtnhunt
Would probably use soybeans for a summer plot. Might check out the eagle seeds blends. Been very impressed so far with the rr beans they put out.
abbie
cow peas..work very nice early in season but will die w/ first frost but it won't matter, deer will have eaten most of them by then anyway. great for early season bowhunting. Gets the deer trained to coming to your fields also.
dogdoc
if you ever make it to this part of the state (central OK) stop by Ross Seed company in El Reno and pick up 100# of their spring wildlife mix. You can't beat it--has a mix of cowpeas, soybeans, alfalfa, millet, milo, and grain sorghum. Produces all summer long and gets lots of activity. If you want to go with a pure stand such as soybeans, like William stated, you need to contact soybeanman with Eagle Seed and order his forage RR ready soybeans. Those beans can handle the pressure.
