AJ
You will need: cleaning rod properly sized (gauge) bronze brushes patch jag cleaning patches wad solvent protective lubricant spray cleaner for action/trigger mechanisim silicone rag for exterior surface You can buy a kit to get a few pieces at once, or you can piece the kit together. I have made some cleaning rods before. They worked as well as the commercial ones. As long as you can get a tap for the 5/16"-27. I prefer this patch holder/jag for shotguns. It works very well. I use a slotted jag to flood the bore with wad solvent. It makes the plastic fouling soften and can be brushed out fairly easily with a good bronze brush. When all is clean, I coat the bore with Slip 2000. It is good for protection and makes future cleanups very quick and easy. I use a Bore Snake for a quick clean at the range. When I am shooting large shoots and don't have time or feel like doing a complete cleaning between events, I just pull the bore snake through the bores a few times. Tominator
Re: Cleaning ur shotgun I'd also highly recommend a bore snake if it's in the budget. Not necessary, but very convenient. I love mine.
too_pointer
Re: Cleaning ur shotgun . Never run a bore brush down a dry bore, it can ruin the fine mirror polish of the bore and can cause scratches that can catch the surface of the shot cup, [/ QUOTE ] Good info, I never thought a bronze bore brush could do any harm. too_pointer
AJ
Re: Cleaning ur shotgun [ QUOTE ] instead of jag and patches would the swabs work just as well [/ QUOTE ] If you want to clean them, I guess so. Personally, I use a clean patch for one pass only. I grab a new patch and go at it again. I do use mops soaked with Slip 2000 for lubing the bore when done cleaning.
