Guest du9207
I recently bought a savage 30-06 that came with scope as part of package.I know the simmons scope it came with is not something expensive but basic. I didn't want to spend much so I bought a nikon buckmaster 4.5 x 14 40mm with BDC for 300dollars, cheap when comapred to others. So my question is shouls I have used different rings and bases other than the ones that came with the rifle? I'm new at rifles and guns so I'm not sure exactly how important new rings and (bases, mounts?)Are. Is anyone familiar with the rings savage uses with their package rifles? Are they good? Or should I buy new ones? I already had someone put the new scope on but I'm willing to put new ones if extremely necessary. This is my first rifle and I want to make sure I don't have something weak and pathetic. Thanks for your time and posts
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Not sure who makes the rings for savage package rifles, but they are decent, have not had any issues with the rings and bases on my wife's model 10 that also originally came with a simmons scope. Used those same rings and bases when I replaced her scope with a nikon buckmaster 3-9X40.
Guest du9207
i looked at the savage manual for the rifle. it says it comes with weaver bases. are weaver bases good?
bruse
They are ok but I would switch to leupold. I have them on all my rifles.
camocop
whichever ones you go with, make sure you loc tite them down so they don't loosen up with recoil.
snapper
They will work and prob. never give you any issues. I prefer steel rings and bases...more than likely the Weaver rings and bases on your Savage are alum. I also use Leupold or Burris rings and bases for the most part.
