sherwood8701
This spring I no tilled some soybeans, sorghum, and buckwheat into an existing hayfield. For some reason it really did not germinate very well. I am ready to go to plan B. Should I spray round up and go back and no till something for this fall, or should I forget about no tilling ang get the disc out? also, what should a guy be planting soon for a plot that will be lush this fall? Thanks for any input.
Darron
I would get the disc out, or a tiller if you got one. My neighbor tilled both my plots and the tiller IMO does a better job than a disc turning the soil. A disc will do the job though. I do know a guy on QDMA forums who has had success with the following method: Round up the plot killing everything wait about 2 weeks come in and broadcast the seed (clover, chicory or brassica seed since they are small seed) Then mow the left over weeds down to about 1-2" high. He had pics of his clover/chicory plot and it looked phenominal. The extra "grass" that is left over after mowing helps to bury the seed once it rains on it. So you can get a decent plot without disking the ground.....if you wanted to go that route.
dogdoc
you probably didn't get good soil contact with the seed. I'd get the disc out and work the ground. where are you located?
