Eddie234
I hunt in an area with an old logging road, It is really grown up with weeds. the deer have a path that winds thru the weeds and the timber almost parallel to the logging road. I know that deer take the path of least resistance, I noticed this a few years ago when I had made a path to my tree stand thru some thick brush and the deer began to use the path I made. I actually shot a deer walking on the path under my tree stand. Well, I cut a path thru the vegitation on the logging road with the hopes the deer will begin using the path I made which goes past the tree I will be hanging my stand in. Has anyone tried this? Sam16
Yes it will work, especially on does and young bucks. The mature bucks may be a bit more cautious and have their own safe routes through an area. We do this very often through our switchgrass fields to funnel the deer movement past our stands. dogdoc
it would work even better if you plant some food for them on the logging road.
wtnhunt
Yep, they will use them. Trails created like that can be good places to setup cams too.
Tominator
Yep, sure have. Man made funnels work like a charm given the right circumstances.
Born4it
I've noticed that and tried to take advantage of it. Another trick is to tie the top two wires of the fence together where you want them to cross in order to make it a shorter jump. I caught that on a video or the Outdoor Channel one time. Give it a try! Good luck, Ryan
123 4/8 P&Y
Even if the big boys are leary of your man made trails, they will still chase does down the trails when they are rutting.
buckee
You're dang tootin it will work. That's one of my old tricks. Another good trick, it to tie open a barbed wire fence, with those large plastic ties, they sometimes use for handcuffs, and cut a trail to it, from another deer trail. It's not long before they are using the hole in the fence, as their new entry point into the field. (ask the farmer if it's OK first) It does hurt the fence, and yo can just snip them off, when you're tired of using that spot. It is a proven strategy...go for it. ;)
