RangerClay
I have an old recurve that I had as a kid and I want to set it up for my daughter. Can I string this up myself (what kind of string should I use?) or should I take it to a pro shop? Thanks!
Leo
Needs to probably be a dacron based string. The fastflite strings nowadays aren't good for recurves. Do you know what length you need? If so, you can probably find a recurve string of that length online.

RangerClay
Should I get the 46 or 47" ?
Leo
For a shorter person get the shorter string.
Hoytguy
How old is your daughter ??? What is the poundage on the bow at 28 inches ??? Getting a shorter string than the one that is on there will increase the poundage.

Actually, fast flite strings are great for recurves that can handle fast flite. But,being that it's an older recurve,Dacron is definitely a must.I'd make you one,but my jig won't make one that small. Also, get a string for the AMO of the bow--don't go shorter and don't go longer. If the AMO is 46.5",you will need a 47" AMO string(which will actually be 3" shorter than the bow length-44").Somewhere on the bow there should be the length--48" or whatever, with the poundage.Knowing what the poundage is also important so you know how many strands to get. Thanks Jim. This is an older kids bow and my daughter is almost 7 years old. I would say that this bow is 30+ years old and any poundage stickers are long worn off. I'm doing this as a little test to see if she likes the sport. If she does then I am going to get her a Mini-Genisis this fall for her birthday. JimPic
Ranger-- When you measure the bow,lay it flat, start at the string groove and go thru the center of the riser to the other string groove-that'll give you your AMO length
