Air Travel Question

USP and Fed Ex have both stopped shipping guns regardless of what the UPS site says trust me I just went through it. Unless you are a dealer UPS will not do it.

There is a way around it thought ship the gun in 2 pieces and 2 boxes it is now considered parts and not a firearm and UPS will carry it.

Thanks for the info, I will check with UPS again in the morning. When I checked last week their response was "Not Possible". I fly into Abilene the 17th of September for 2 weeks, it's a Charity Hunt for Disability Resources, Inc. there in Abilene. This will be my 5th year enjoying this hunt. Last year there were so many birds I almost got tired of shooting. It will be interesting to see if Budweiser steps up again this year. They have always been a big supporter of the hunt each year. I am lucky enough to be considered a "Celebrity" and get an invite to this great hunt. I understand that the Sunflower crop is doing quite well this year so hopefully we will have good shooting again.

...USPS will ship your rifles...you do NOT need to ship to an FFL, unless they are handguns..(in that case, you need an FFL on BOTH ends)...

- Box and tape them up well, each rifle or shotgun(I'm assuming shotguns?)...in their case, then in another box to fit.

-Send with Delivery confirmation, and insurance....

-just don't send any ammo, along with....(don't bring or pack on the airlines, either...:D:rolleyes:...I've been "caught" several times, at the gate, when I had various rounds in my pocket...LOL-NOT fun...:o:D:))

-I used to work for the post office...and just sent(2 weeks ago) a couple of rifles down south ....- I even called our local USPS office to check on any current reg. changes...

--We have friends come up all the time, to hunt...and they ship their rifles back and forth, before hand and after...

-You can get on the web, at USPS.com....

UPS ships guns. :cool::rolleyes:

They must be shipped either to or from an FFL holder. Have a copy of the FFL for UPS' inspection. The address the gun is being shipped to must match the address on the FFL exactly.

UPS may tell you the wish to have the firing pin removed. But it ain't mandatory.

Went to South Dakota for Pheasant last October. Got in to Sioux Falls, my luggage was there, no gun case. Went to put in my claim and give local address to have them delivered to, while I was talking with the claim agent my buddy who was there to pick me up spied a case tucked under the counter that looked a lot like mine. Long story short it was mine and they had no explanation as to how it got under the counter. No connecting flight, straight flight from Charlotte, NC to Sioux Falls, SD. Air travel is crazy these days and I don't want to take another chance, especially since I have to connect through Dallas to Abilene which is just one more opportunity for something to go wrong. Had a business trip to San Diego to meet with San Diego PD early June this year. When I went to board the plane, the gate attendant says that my roly case for my laptop is too large for the overhead, OK fine, I check it gateside, get to San Diego and somehow my case disappeared from the plane in flight, still hasn't shown up. Still waiting on that claim. Sorry for the rant.

...Totally understandable, about the mistrust/ margin for error, when dealing with the airlines...

-and Strut has some real good info, if you choose to go UPS....HOWEVER....UPS will cost you an arm and a leg for shipping your guns...(or certain things for that matter)...-whereas going through the USPS will be a lot more affordable...

-I highly stress the tracking and insurance , if you go USPS...and it is relatively cheap, considering the probable cost of your firearm(s)...

Never heard that have done about 10,000 transfers where the guns are shipped via UPS

Steve

....Strut works for United Parcel Service.....;)

....-just out of curiosity....

-I wonder how many people are getting UPS and USPS mixed up??

(UPS= United Parcel Service.....

and- USPS = United States Postal Service...i.e.- your post office...):)

Thanks to all for the great advice. Talked with the USPS and since my shotgun is an over/under, I can break it down and ship it in 2 seperate boxes to the my buddy's Lodge I will be staying at outside of Abilene. what i need to do is just buy another shotgun and leave it there, since I am there again in February for Quail. Again, Thanks for all the great advice.
