iron buck
Looking at the 17 HMR for groundhog control in the back yard. What are some good ones? What kind of accuracy to expect? Cost?
Hoosierbuck
I went with the NEF sportster. It is a heavy barrel break action single shot that groups better than I do, and is cheap. Less than or right at 2 bills. I like it a lot. HB
Strut10
I hear that CZ and Savage are coming out with new rifles in 5mm Rem Mag. You may want to check out the numbers on that round before you commit to a .

Texan_Til_I_Die
I've got a new Savage stainless that I picked up for $250. I already had a Leupold 3x9x40 in matching silver that I topped it off with. Haven't shot it yet, but I'm planning to remedy that this weekend. maytom
CZ-American in the .17HMR caliber is the model I went with. Awesome gun for the money!!
Guest du9207
savage makes great .17hmr ive done lots of reading on them, a couple of weeks ago i was going to get one but i ended up choosing a 22-250. what range do you plan shooting at hogs? i went to different gun stores and all told me 150 yards maybe 200 is good effective range for.17hmr other people might have different opinions but that is what i was told. One thing you would be happy with is cheap ammo
toddpipkin
Ironbuck, I do still have that Weatherby MK. XXII, in .17 HMR. I had decided to keep it, and set it up with Redfield bases, Leupold rings, and a Leupold VX-II, 3-9X40. Monday, a buddy called me, and offered me a chance at membership on a PRIME hunting lease not too far away. This Weatherby could help me pay for that. Set up as it is now, I'll take $1150.00, shipped to your FFL.
doubleA
I have five 17 HMR's, some are great shooters and some are not. Cooper M57 with 6.5x20x50 Zeiss Conquest, great shooting rifle, AA walnut it's about $2300 as set up Anschutz 1517 HB with Zeiss 6.5x20x50, this is the wifes rifle, it's a great shooter, nice deep brown walnut wood too. appx $1700 Anschutz 1517 HB with Zeiss Conquest 6.5x20x50, this is my iron, again it's a shooter. Walnut and bright bluing,$1700 Ruger 77/17 , disappointing accuracy compared to the rifles above. Grey laminated stock, grey target finish with a Leupold VX II 4-12 silver scope, appx $850 NEF Sportster with BSA 6-18 Sweet 17, it's my truck gun, no nonsense rifle. not pretty but its a good shooting rifle and a great value in money spent. appx $270 There you have it, that's what I have experince with. You do not have to spend alot of money to get a good shooting and dependable 17 HMR, Savage, Marlin and NEF have proven that.
