wtnhunt
Yesterday afternoon took my 12 year old with me to the bottom where I had been bush hogging earlier on in the day. I had seen a fawn in the swamp grass come out into the strips where I was mowing, and it would dart into the woods and then come back out and nibble on the cut grass at the edge of the woods. Little booger ran across the open field from woodline to woodline a few times right behind me. I knew it would still be around. Anyhoo, I had parked the tractor and walked back to the house and figured I could use a ride back down to the bottom on the 4 wheeler and thought we might see the fawn so she went along with me to help me burn off some of the thick grass where we plan to get a plot in this weekend. The grass was so thick, running the disc over it was just not breaking it up as well as I wanted it to so decided on burning off what I could. Got the area burned off without any incidence and I got back on the tractor and was about done discing when I saw the little guy come back out. My daughter was over by the 4 wheeler in the shade and she could not see it, it darted back in the woods anyway. When I got back over where she was sitting I told her to be watching next time I went around. On the very next pass not one, but two fawns stepped out as I was heading away from them. I parked the tractor about 70 yards from them and my daughter walked all the way across the field while they were watching her and nonchalantly feeding(roughly 175 yards) and walked over to within about 50 feet of these two fawns before they took off into the woods for cover. Shame I did not have a camera with me, would have made a great photo of her so close to the little ones, but that sure made her day getting that close to the little ones. Randy
There have been too many times when I wished I had the camera along with the kids and missed out on some great pics. Maybe we ought to start carrying it with us all the time. That is neat your daughter got to see some of mother natures work so close.
