Rem308
I went to the range this afternoon with a good friend. We pitted his Savage .17HMR vs. my Marlin .22WMR. I will say that the wind was variable and did effect some of the shots, as well as our human error. End result, we had a blast and still argue about which is better! His .17 HMR My .22WMR A few targets: First, the first shots he took at 50 were low, so he adjusted. The wind began picking up and really spread out his shots. We shot off sandbags and a rest, were very steady, but that wind was having an effect on his rifle. The wind died down, and this was the best pattern out of his we had...a very tight group of shots for the .17 HMR. Wind spread this pattern out a little. This next group of targets were all shot in the wind. Notice the 17 had a few grouping issues, the .22 WMR had no real noticable change. This was actually my first grouping at 50 in my .22 WMR. The first 5 were a little high, so I adjusted my scope. I shot a great pattern next (Green circle), but then I just had to have a flyer in there?! Seems to always happen! Rem308
I was shooting CCI .22 WMR 40 grain TMJ (Total Metal Jackets) He was shooting Hornady 17 HMR 17 gr. Ballistic Tips I have heard from some that if we had used a different ammo in his 17 HMR that we wouldn't have been affected by the wind so much. Maybe the 20 grain ballistic tips from Hornady?
