I have been hunting on 200 acer land for a few years. Half is a swamp that goes up to a river and the rest is feild and hardwoods. I never see any bucks older than 3 years old during the season but i know older ones are out the because of my trail cameras. i always left the swamp as a sanctuary for the deer and stayed out. Does any one have ny ideas on how to improve my succses

id look for the trail coming in and out of the swamp, the older bucks might be nocturnal and move into the swamp at day light and leave before dark, if it was me while its still a good time before season i would venture into the swamp and take a look around for any high ground that they might bed on, and look for trails, than make a game plan.

During the Pre Rut I would find a trail leading from the feeding area to the bedding area and I would set up off that, get there early becuase during the early season deer tend to move back to their bedding early especially the big boys. During the prime rut, i would hunt the trial coming from the feed field to the bedding area of the morning, this is because you dont want to try and hunt the feed field of the morning and take a chance of scaring the deer out of the field coming to your stand, and throw them off their normal trails During the afternoon I would hunt the hardwoods or swamp, this is where most of you "Bucks chasing the Does," takes place. In the evening I would find a trial leading into the feed field and set up off that, makingsure you get a clear shot on the trail and into the field itself.

Right now is the perfect time to wait for a good steady rain, go in that swamp, and find an ambush point for the big boy. I would set a stand, and get out. I would only go back when the bow season opens, the wind is right, and you are prepared for a long set. I would go in way before daylight, and stay either till that stud is down, or dark comes again. In the swamp, the deer move all day. Got a great nine point that way.
