ChasinTail
Hi all, My work recently informed me my position is most likely being relocated to Asheville, NC. I have hunted most of my life in north Florida (which believe it or not has produced decent bucks). My first question to any guys in NC. Is there quality hunting near Asheville? My research so far has only turned up lots of talk about Anti's and far left residents! I even heard of a lady in the news paper saying hunter's children may create the next Columbine! I am scared this area is not hunter friendly at all and may be a bad move for my hunting passion. Next, if there is huntable land in this area, how easy is it for a newcomer to gain access to such places? Any help or encouragment would be appreciated as I may be looking for a new job! hammerforged
Asheville itself is pretty far left but he surrounding area isn't. You aren't too far from prime hunting grounds in western NC and eastern Tenn. Asheville is a great jumping off place, you could even make it down in to north western South Carolina from there. You are in the heart of the Smoky Mountains in Asheville.
Hoyt03
My parents were just by there visiting that Biltmore place and they said it's rural as heck between there and east TN where they drove from. Defintely some hillbillies running around those parts. Mountains all around that place, you should have whitetail and turkey, maybe even black bear all around there. Straight Shooter
Calm down, its not all your are reading about. I've lived here for over 30 years now and there is plenty of property (government land) to hunt as well some private if you've got the right connections. My sig says Mills River and that is only 20 minutes from Asheville. Pesonally I don't like the Asheville area but the surrounding area's are great, it just cost to much live in the Asheville area and yes there are a wide variety of cultures there. As for hunting area, there is Bent Creek, the Blue Ridge Parkway in certain areas, Fosters Creek, Mills River, Pisgah National Forest and these are all within 30-45 minutes of Asheville.
