Guest DMoss
Anyone ever used Berger Bullets?? I am looking at the 30 cal .308 bullet dia. 175gr. Match VLD and or 185gr. Match VLD for Elk and all western big game. Does anyone have any experience with these bullets and how did they perform for you? Thanks Dd
AJ
Unless they have changed them recently, they say that they are not designed for big game and there is no way I would use them for elk. Deer, you might get away with them. Deer are not hard to kill. Elk are big critters. Use a good strong constructed bullet that will drive deep. Not a hollow point paper punching bullet. Strut10
If I remember right, unless you have an extended magazine, you have to load VLD's single-shot. They are VERY long.
doubleA
Berger now make both Target and Hunting bullets, with that said............. I shoot alot of Berger 168 VLD's, strictly for paper punching but Berger packages them in a bright fluoresent orange box with a card in them saying..............THESE ARE MATCH GRADE HUNTING BULLETS. The 168's have a .512 BC and are .067" longer the Sierra 168 Match King. These take a 1:13 or faster twist. I have not used any of the weights you mentioned Dmoss but using them is going to be dependant on your particular rifle and on it's twist. If you are using a super magnum or possibly a long throated Weatherby they might be the ticket. I used to use Bergers years ago in BR , back then Walt was a small operation and has since then sold the rights but I assure you they are top notch bullets and can be used for hunting. Jeramie
They are top notch bullets. However, dont pass up Sierra or Hornady. Both are just as good of choice for hunting bullets.
